Best Place to Mfind in NM?

Well, with all the imunes and my lack of "ZOMGodly" gear, Mfinding Hell is kinda out of question... So the option is Soj-Hunting nm andy and running nm's best spots till I CAN go into hell...

Now the question is...wich ARE the best places?

Stuff I'm trying to find:

Shako
Tals
Occy

Can these drop in nm? if so where?

Shako, Occy, and Tals (except the armor) can all drop in nightmare.
Baal and Meph are probably the guys you want to aim for.

In nightmare, I suggest to visit Meph for the uniques and cows for the rest.

Only nm Baal can drop Harlequin Crests (I'm not sure about nm Diablo), but better visit hell Meph for it because MFing Baal takes some time. Check yourself with the drop calculator of ATMA - see my sig.

I love my sig :)

Well, problem with hell meph is, blood lords and the "way" to meph kill me...I need better resists and to "upgrade" my fire power... Not to mention that my merc loves to "poke" the stupid stingyan dolls...

You need a teleporter, of course, i.e. a sorc. Get the merc killed, he will spoil the moat trick (see below). As a start, I suggest to make a Stealth breastplate - by far the best low-level sorc item - and get some staff or orb. After a couple of Meph runs, you will have e.g. Suicide Branch or Spectral Shard (50%fcr !!) and perhaps a useful shield. I found Visceratuant, for example. Other useful stuff are Magefists (not Frostburns), a belt with 4 potion rows (you will need lots of mana potions), a 3 ptopaz helm, later a Stealth armor (only if you have good fcr, else stick to Stealth while teleporting). Regarding charms, fhr and fire res are most important.

If you do the moat trick the right way (teleport to the left side of Durance 3, lure Meph to the stairs or onto the platform near the portal, stay away from the room to the left, place the sorc between the golden stone and the firepot, so Meph is at the top left of the screen, kill him with meteors or blizzards while watching TV or scratching your butt), you will rarely have to deal with bloodlords or councils. If they attack you, fight them or abort, depending on the strength of your character.

As soon as you get used to it, a Meph run takes just 1-2 minutes.

Sounds easy.....thought I allways screw it up....

You wouldn't happen to play USEast would you? I mean... Argh..I can't do hell meph..I just can't..:\...I could use some "Visual backup"...

Currently using Spirit sword, Skins of the Vipermagi (low one), snowclash, splendor shield, Tarnhelm, a +1 sorc skills ammy, manald heal, some mfind magic ring, Tearhaunchs, and some rare gloves with double resists and mfind

No, I'm from Europe, but I can provide a screenshot:

Place Meph and yourself like this. Exact placement is important here, so move there by teleporting to ensure that the game server has the same idea of your sorc's location as your local computer. If you go a step to the left top, Meph starts casting spells at you (that's why you must not have a merc with you). If you go to the bottom left (e.g. because you want to know what's in the chest), a council comes out of the room. If you go to the bottom right, a bloodlord pack might be down there and attack you. If you go to the top right, you fall into the moat and you will turn into one of the corpses you can see there  The councils are normally not near, but if they are (happens 1 in 4 times) and you have a Rising Sun amulet, the councils' hydras will actually heal you, so you can ignore them, but I prefer to attack them with meteors or FOs if the boss is fire immune - they give quite good XP and their drops aren't that bad either. Good fire resist will help a lot in any case. The boss is always lightning enchanted, but at the specified position, the lightning will nearly never hit you. Just don't panic and stand still. You have the fingers on your potion keys all the time, of course.

To get Meph there, teleport over the moat and run to the circle mosaic. Meph will approach you. If he gets stuck, run back and forth a little. As soon as he follows you, run back to the stairs (take care of the evil force there), wait until he appears at the screen again, then teleport over it.

Erm, Ok, I didn't explain myself too well..

If it was Me Vs Meph..I COULD do that... It's teleport TO the place, and handling the council members that totally screws me over... For once, without my merc, I won't have enough mana (at the moment) to just find my way to meph throught the bloody messy dungeon...The map just seems like the designers were sea sick and acidently hit a few control keys with their heads...erratic as hell... Also, having -40 resists....doesn't help...

Personally, I think that NM cows is the best place to find items. NM Meph never dropped anything for me and Durace 2 in NM is MASSIVE. It takes me atleast 2x times longer to find Durance 3 in NM than it does in hell. But I guess if you can't survive hell Meph or NM cows, I'd run NM meph or NM Andy. Also, I think viability is better than MF at the moment. I think effectively killing hell Meph will less than 30MF would be better than NM meph, with more MF. That isn't statistically based, just what I've observed in my own playing experience.

My technique lets you ignore the councils, so with the chicken tactic (leave game when bloodlords or councils attack), you won't need any resists at all. You teleport along the bottom part of durance 3 to the left and then and then up, but don't come too near to the entrance of the left room. I suggest you have a few resist charms in your inventory. If you are short on resist equipment, concentrate on fire res.

The stairs to durance 3 are normally (in 75% of all cases) to the left of the exit of the room with the waypoint because of the design of these rooms. There are 4 possible WPO rooms and each has its corresponding stairs room which is 90° turned clockwise, i.e. their orientation is always the same.

To teleport safely, you need fcr (to be away before they hit) and perhaps fhr (to recover quickly after they hit). Just keep the mouse button and the ctrl key pressed while teleporting. If you have 105% fcr, the monsters aren't quick enough to hit you, as long as the mouse cursor always points to an area where you can teleport to. Have 3 belt places full of mana potions. Ignore the monsters in durance 2. If you die in a dangerous area, don't try to recover your corpse, forget about the XP and money loss and start a new game.

To speed up Meph runs, go through the portal to act 4 after each run, so you don't have to run through 3/4 of Kurast in the next one. Replenish your potions after each run. Later you will have more mana and that part can normally be skipped then.

I can handle nm cows well...
And yeah i know that Survivability > Mfind.....but at this point, I'm kinda lacking on the survivability side....not by my own choice, rather by the impossibility to choose....Once I have better gear and resists I can start "mephing" and "andying"...Ironic...

I wrote another posting while you wrote yours. I'm not sure if you noticed it, but have a look at the bottom of page 1 ;)

Try to get a hold of a Spirit Monarch. With 2 spirits you'll have at least 110%FHR, 50% FCR, 200 mana, +4 all skills and even some resists. The fact that your vipermagi is a low one doesn't matter much, the trick is to get to 105%FCR to get teleporting going. With that much FHR you'll be pretty safe.

Teleporting past Council Members is something of an art. Sometimes it is easy, but sometimes they will cast hydras on top of you, which can be annoying. Running meph with a merc is a waste, since he will get himself killed, or even worse: attract monsters and meph spells to you.

A 4os monarch goes for Pul on USEast (at least it did 2 weeks ago) and spirit runes can be farmed easily by either trading Pgems or running NM countess.

Drawback is the 156 str req. but there are ways around that (IK gloves+belt is cheap and common, and can be gotten from NM Griswold or Smith).
