Hell cows, the lowest strength requirement shield that can have 4 sockets is a monarch, with a requirement of 156 strength. Pretty steep if you ask me.

i think its dependent on the shield type..maybe u can check it up on the str requirements...for example a large shield might have a low str req even though its 4 socket ( do they come in 4 sockets? ) and a troll's nest will need alot of str even if its one socketed..

bottomline is number of sockets has no bearing on str req

Listen, i know what i'm talking about, there are only a few non-paladin specific shields (thus that a sorceress can wear) that can even get 4 sockets. Amongst them the one with the lowest strength requirement is a monarch with a requirement of 156.

3 socketed shields are pretty light, not sure on that.

EDIT- a large shield for 34 strength can get 3 socks.

Actually the maximum possible number of sockets on a shield (or on any equipement for that matter) is dependent on Item Type and Item Level. Normally the Item Level will not be important, so basically the Item Type is what decides the max number of sockets.

For instance, a Kite Shield always has max 3 sockets, so does a Dragon Shield. Only a Monarch has 4 sockets. This does not mean that the Monarch always has 4 sockets, but it's the maximum amount.

For the record, there are only 3 shields that have a max of 4 sockets (excluding pally specific shields)
    - Monarch - 156 strength required
    - Ward - 185 strength required
    - Aegis - 219 strength required
