Liverpool 3-3 AC Milan (0-3 at half-time)
Liverpool win on penalty shootout

No doubt the greatest moment!

Has anyone mentioned when Tom Brady hurt his knee? :whistling:

Seriously, too many to list. The Brett Favre game the day after his father died in '03 was pretty sweet.

Yeah, that Monday Night Football game was a pretty good one.

Senegal beating France in the opening game of the 2002 World Cup. Absolutely amazing story.

Lance Armstrong passing Jan Ullrich in the prologue of the 2005 TdF.

As much as I hate to admit it, Michael Phelps winning his 8th is probably one of the great moments.

(I don't hate the fact that he won, I hate the fact that he was all that got attention)

Something tells me you didn't hate all the Lance Armstrong attention. Easily equal to the hype that Phelps has gotten.

Jesse Owens in 1936 needs to be in this thread.

Also, some personal favourites, from a slightly biased POV :D

The 2008 Brazilian GP was pretty awesome. Last corner of the last lap of the last race of the season.

The finales of the Edgbaston and Old Trafford test matches in the 2005 Ashes.

2003 Rugby World Cup Final

Is anybody interested in a few videos of penalty shootouts involving Germany ?
Really no ;)

Yeah that was a big one too, especially the last one where the French guy basically had it, but somehow Phelps got the boost of speed in the last maybe 3 foot stretch.

I could not stand Phelps' personality though. It was an incredible moment, and i was glad to see him make history. But i really disliked his character.

Re: Best moments in sports history?

Sure you could live a long time....but what would you do? **** life without fun.
I belive what most people call fun, is merely some kind of entertainment that is derived through our emotional states. I do not give much for fun, and though when I was younger I only lived to have fun, mostly by playing computer games, I do now live to accomplish goals I have to defeat my fears and create the world I want.

... I also prefer to have these animalic instincts and desires. As soon as we lose them, we are nothing but androids or homunculi.
I could not find out a definition of homunculi that made sense with what you wrote, but I would say that we are more like androids if we are slaves to our animalic instincts, than if we have a complete freedom to choose our own actions, after all, if one has no responsibilities then our only limit of our actions (that are physical possible) to our goals would actually be from our desires of instantanious satisfaction.

However if we only had our primitive instincts, then we'd be more of an android, since we would not control our actions, but only behave on what some random emotions would dictate us to do.

Sure our goals and actions are deep down determined by our emotions, like Stillman seems to value his parents rather high, but when comparing different emotions in a rational way every person should be able to determine actually what they want, and from then one, emotions should not be relevant until the goal has been achieved. If the comparision was made rational I do not think anyone would ever change their mind as well.

Why don't you play off MS against other popular things, like Christmas ?
The problem I have with Christmas is that it is often used as an excuse to be with those we love. I do not believe there should be an excuse for this. However if it is a situation that live up to the goal one have, while sports maybe don't then there shouldn't be a problem in it. The opposite could also be true of course, I am not trying to dictate what other wants.

My point is that your comparison is not constructive, as we don't have a choice like that anyway.
You never know if you never try. At least done all what we could do, we can live with that it was not our lack of courage that stopped us, but the lack of ability.

Besides, it might be the case that enjoying people by offering sports events does more good to society than a cure for MS.
That depends on your definition of what is good, I would say if we could cure all diseases it would be worth sacrificing all sports for, sport should never mean so much that it decide the temper of a person, since that is the same as giving away your free will to the ability of some sportsmen, who probably don't even care about you.

stillman:
You criticize others, yet you waste your time on this meaningless (sorry, everyone) forum when you could either be working on cures yourself or you could be earning additional money to support those that do work on cures for diseases. Hmm. :scratchchin:
I completely agree with this, often people who tend to preach for others are those who most of all needs help to achieve what they preach.

Otherwise if he actually made everyone on this forum go out and do research then he'd probably have done something good, yet I still believe to do something right, one needs to do it oneself.

In the cycling world, yes, but Phelps dominated everything. NBC showed every swimming event, and that was because of Phelps.

2007 Fiesta Bowl

Boise State v. Oklahoma

Best....game....ever

If that game had been in a movie, you would have thought it overly dramatic and unrealistic.
Completely agree. I was in shock while watching the end of that game. "Did...did they actually just do a statue of liberty play?" Awsome game.

This superbowl was pretty damn good too.

Re: Best moments in sports history?

I'll go with the 1980 USA Hockey. Villanova winning the 1985 NCAA tournament was amazing and Giants / Pats Superbowl was pretty cool. I like underdog stories.

The Brett Favre game the day after his father died in '03 was pretty sweet.
I remember that one. He threw into tight coverage all night and WR always made the catch. The Oakland crowd gave him a standing O as he went on the field, and the Raider DBs didn't want to spoil the moment by grabbing some easy INTs.
I'm not as fond of #4 as I used to be.

Re: Best moments in sports history?

I love Favre, he has always been my favorite quarterback in terms of being an actual quarterback. But Vick always put on the best shows.

Heres one:
Falcons at Vikings, Falcons from their own 40 or 45. Vick snaps the ball and hooks to the left and takes off running, he burns all of the DBs down the field, except for the last two Vikings DBs try to catch Vick and collide with one another.

Or another one, i cant remember it exactly. Vick runs of course, he is at the end zone and he is tackled, but he managed to somehow keep his knees and elbows from touching the ground as he extends his body full length to get the touchdown. The Vick "drag". I think it was against the Panthers.

Not greatest moments in sports, but those were some of those "DID YOU JUST SEE THAT" moments.

Re: Best moments in sports history?

I'm guessing its the 46 yard run in overtime, he had 127 up til that and that run made it 173
