    best mf necro? stupid question?

well, I've had a gander through the forums and searching and what not. Looking to make a necro that would be ideal for a pit runner. I could experiment and try different builds til I find one that has great success, but I like to see results. If anybody can name me a build that they found rises above the rest for pit running efficiency, I would bow in honour.
    Thanks.
    Gore.

The Best Pit Runner Necro Build I Would Hafta Say Summoner Build Thats What I Run The Pits With And I Never Die. The Build I Currently Use Is
    20 Raise Skele.
    20 Skele Mast.
    6 Summon Resist
    10 Revive
9 - 10 in Skele Mage (enough to get atleast 5)
Amp and Decrep for your Curses
20 Corpse Explosion (excelent skill one thing dies boom CE the rest)
And the rest is up to you. Hope this helps :)

thats definately something I would have considered. However, I did hear that poison is great for the pits. As well as teeth. perhaps it was all hearsay.

If you have good gear a Poison/Skellie hybrid will fly through The Pit.

hmm, good gear. thats what I don't have, and thats what this is all about. however, I think I will struggle through with that until I find some decent stuff anyway.
    thanks for reading and replying.

if you have GREAT gear, POISON / SUMMON.

if you dont have great gear, and want to find exactly that:

    20 skele mastery
    20 skele warrior
    20 corpse explosion
1 clay golem / golem mastery / summon resist
    1 amp damage
    1 weaken / terror
    5-10 Decrepify
    5-10 Dim Vision
    1 Confuse / Attract

Amp is your main curse, but dim vision is for the pesky archers in the pits. Decrep is a great spell for every necro, so slap a few there. You CAN max dim vision, search for a thread by spartacvs, as he recommends maxing DV.

    Gear for the starting necro:
    tarnhelm (p.topaz) or 3 p.topaz helm
wealth armor or 4 p topaz armor
2x nagel rings or magical mf rings
rare mf boots or magical mf boots
rare mf ammy or magical mf ammy
    chance guard gloves
goldwrap belt (upgrade for more slots for potions)

This is exactly what I did for my first character on us east ladder, and trust me when I say this: I owe everything i now have to that one (horribly equipped) character!

Then the mentioned Summoner is your best bet. He doesn't need any gear to run The Pit. So you can load up on MF gear.

Can I ask why you advocate 5-10 in DV / Decrep and just 1pt in AD, when you use AD as your main curse? I thought the rule of thumb was AD for crowd control and Decrep for bosses, etc.

    Many thanks,

    EJ

Also, what you got in mind for a cheap 'n cheerful shield? Rhyme?

More points in Amp only add to the duration and AoE. With a few +skills the AoE is more than large enough. While the duration is large enough even at level 1.

DV requires more points because of the duration cut in NM and Hell. Decrep has a really lousy duration so it needs a relatively large amount of skill points to be workable.

Aha. Thanks MM. I just beat Diablo in NM last night and noticed that I was having to recast my Decrep every 5 seconds or so (currently lvl 1), although I hadn't quite twigged that the duration takes a dip after normal mode.

    EuroJamie:
More points into Amp Damage only increases it's radius, not the effective damage multiplied.

More points into Dim Vision increases it's radius and it's duration.
More points into Decrepfiy does not increase it's radius, it does increase the duration.

Both DV / Decrep are EXTREMELY useful and you should have enough +skill points to get an acceptable radius for AD.

    I hope this helps.

    p.s.
Rhyme is great. If your a blocking build, then use it in a troll nest, if your not, use it in a necro head with good +skills.

MM, g, jamie, thanks for all the great input. Cuts some of the struggle out and adds to the fun, for me anyway.
    Thank You,

Another vote for the Summoner if you don't have the gear. You can skip on resists and not have to worry much. Mine is currently running the poor-man's MF setup; 4 ptopaz armor, 3 ptopaz helm, magic mf ammy & rings and a decent Gheed's one of my sorc's found off Andy (she loves dropping me Gheed's).

Getting some decent poison gear shouldn't be all that difficult, though. Death's Web and Bramble are pretty expensive but you can do well with Blackborg's Sharp, Trangs gloves, belt & head, plus some slightly more expensive items like a Shako if you can afford it. This works well for NM (haven't taken mine into Hell yet).

If you're really wanting to get some gear fast and you have two comps, the best thing to do is hellforge rushing with a sorc that can tele pretty fast & has a good mana pool. That should get you plenty of decent-good runes to trade for items you want.

It's a cave in the Tamoe Highlands in Act 1. In Hell, I'm told that the Character level of many of the monsters in it is on a par with Hell Baal, making it ideal for MFing because of the potential quality of the drops.
