I played 1.10 in single player as I was in Iraq and couldn't play online. I managed to get great gear by doing the following:
First off, play the quests through. I know that isn't hip on B-Net but items will drop that are decent and quite useful as you play. It can't hurt.
Try buying some MF boot or gloves from NPCs. Save a 3 socket Grand Crown and put P Topaz in. Do NM Travencal runs for cash and the occasional good item drop. Add to your MF with items that drop such as Chance Guards, GOld Wrap etc. Rare gloves can have MF and other nice mods. So can some Set items. Look for IAS and resists as well as MF. Sell the items you don't keep for cash to gamble ammys from NM Act 4 or Act 5. You can also buy decent weapons from Act 4 NM. Look for Evisceration and Cruel mods.
Also you can get LL in gloves from NPCs. Pick up EVERY ring or ammy that drops. Look for Increased Attack Rating rings w LL. They are more common than you might think. Also pick up Pally shields; even the blue ones can have great stats as in +1 Pally skills and All Resists with 4 sockets. I just got a 4 socket Arkaran Targe with +1 skills 39 all resist. Plop in 4 P Diamonds and you have 115 all resists. Rare Pally shields can be godly even in NM.
Once I could run Baal in NM I did that and I got REAL nice gear and gained lots of levels. While I couldn't trade the great items that I couldn't use, you CAN. I outfitted myself quite nicely doing NM Baal runs and it made Hell much easier.
The cool thing about doing it this way is your Pally won't be cookie cutter gear-wise and you will have gotten the majority of your items yourself, thus guaranteeing that your gear is legit and not duped. All that and you will eventually get Godly gear without having to trade for it.
