I have began a mission recently to try to complete the game through Hell players 8 with in what i would consider the best 5 builds for each character, thats 35 characters. i understand that it will take awhile but i am older now and Diablo is the only game i play nowadays that i can get away with on my laptop without my wife getting mad lol. I have already completed Zealot for Paladin now i am currently in Hell with my Charger. Anyways i will post my list and any suggestions, input or opinions will be greatly appreciated! Keep in mind these are all 100% Legit single player! PvM!
Paladin- Zealot, Charger, Hammerdin, Avenger (Vengeance), FOHer

Amazon- Bowazon, Javazon, LightJab Amazon, Passive Amazon, not sure what else ! Help

Assasin- Trapsin, Monk, Kicksin? (any good), Elementalist, Vampire. I have just gotten these off of WiKi i have never played Assasin and i only know that a Trapsin is good, input please!

Necromancer- Bonespear, Poison Nova, Summoner, Corpse Explosion, some sort of hybrid for the 5th? Any input?

Barbarian- ThrowBarb, WWBarb, FrenzyBarb, Berserk Barb, Dragoon

Sorceress- Chain Lightning, Blizzard, FrozenOrb, Fireball, some sort of Hybrid? Any Input?

Druid- FuryWolf, Windy, Summoner, Fire Druid, MaulBear. As with the Assasin i dont know much about Druids so any input would be great!!

I don't know what kind of gear you have access to? Are you playing each character untwinked? Especially if you don't have high end gear, I'd make sure that you build hybrid/2 element characters.

For example: Blizzard and Orb are nice, but if you don't have 'Infinity' you're gonna run into trouble with CI. You could make Blizz-Baller, and MeteOrb instead.

Necro is another one that would concern me. Are you going ALL Poison and ALL Bone, with NO summons? That is much more difficult than hybrid Summon/Poison or Summon/Bone.

I play completely untwinked, but i am very dedicated to running until i find the good items. The hardest things for me obtain are high level runes for high level runewords, i have found almost every unique in the game at least once.... about the builds i am not sure yet exactly how they will go right now just looking to get some information on what people think! I have heard before that hybrids would be the way to go...

For the amazons,

Magezon
Physical bowazon
Javazon(lit/poison)
Impale zon

And if u r up for it, the fuzzydodger

Edit: the fuzzydodger will require a beast runeword though. Idk if you would twink it, or run LK for a ber.

Edit2: no twink i see. Perhaps a daggerzon for your passive build then. =P

It's been awhile since I played on Bnet and made all these builds, so memory might be a little off. The best build is going to depend on what exactly you want: quickest killing speed? best MFer? most tanky? boss destroyer?

With that said, I would say generally...

Best killing speed
Amazon - LF/CS javazon with Infinity merc... hands down quickest mob/boss destroyer (can one hit bosses with CS)
Assassin - DS/LS kicksin (Rift/Destruction) or WW sin
Sorceress - Chain Light sorc, melee hybrid
Necromancer - CE+Bone Spear
Druid - Windy druid with Doom/Nightwing

Tankiest/safest
Paladin - Hammerdin/Smitadin (smite with Grief+Life Tap=invincible, best uber runner)
Druid - Werebear+Oak Sage+Summons
Barb - WW barb
Necromancer - Summoner/Fishymancer

Good for MFing
Sorceress - Blizz sorc (free teleport and few immune troubles)
Barb - Many builds + Find Item
Paladin - Hammerdin (more gear dependent but a solid choice)

IMO it seems to me the Male characters are more tanky but kill slower and the Females kill much quicker but die easier.

You could also incorporate all 7 class specific sets into this plan.

Amazon:

  • Lightning Furyzon (LF/CS) or Lightning/Poison Hybrid
  • Magezon (FA/CA/IA/EA) - M'avina's Battle Hymn
  • Bowazon (MS/S)
  • Lightning Spearazon (LS/CS) or Physical Spearazon (Fend)
  • Passivezon
Lots of opportunity for hybrid builds with the Amazon

Assassin:
  • Lightning Trapper
  • Blade Fury/Kick Assassin
  • Phoenix Striker - Natalya's Odium
  • Whirlwindsin
  • Venom Melee Martial Artist (aka Aggressin)
Barbarian:
  • Whirlwinder - Immortal King
  • Frenzy Barb
  • Berserker
  • Throwbarb
  • Singer
I'd pick a Singer over a Dragoon.

Druid:
  • Fury Wolf
  • Windy
  • Fire Claws Druid - Aldur's Watchtower
  • Summon Ranger
  • Maul Bear
Necromancer:
  • Venomancer - Trang-Oul's Avatar
  • Bonemancer
  • Summoner
  • Meleemancer / Golemancer
  • Mojomancer

Paladin:
  • Fanatic Zealot
  • Hammerdin
  • Avenger - Griswold's Legacy
  • Charger
  • Eletemplar
I would hybridise your FOHer into an Eletemplar

Sorceress:
  • Blizzard Sorceress
  • Pure Lightning Sorceress - You'll want Infinity
  • MeteOrb - Tal Rasha's Wrappings
  • Nova Sorc - Perhaps a 200 FCR sorc with Fireball or Glacial Spike backup?
  • Hydra Sorc or Ranged Enchantress

Obviously, the sets aren't always the optimal gear, especially for the Druid where it is decidedly poor. However, if you have found most uniques/sets, then these builds are doable. The 2 highest runewords that are required for the above builds are Chaos and Infinity. You can do everything else without high end runewords, although some would be a lot nicer with Enigma.

EDIT: Changed Fire Druid to Fire Claws Druid for clarity - for Aldur's set.

Tough project but good luck and have fun regardless.

As for some input:
1. Assassin
* Trapper - someone completed untwinked p8 hc some time ago, might be worthwhile to look up his thread. One of the things that helped was 'lower resists' wand (charges of LR)
* Kicksin - maybe some trap/kick hybrid here. Max 'tiger strike', DT finishing move and rest into traps....
* What is a vampire assassin? :)

2. Necromancer
Not much experience with non-cookie cutter builds, the biggest problem is that they lack damage even for p1, so p8?
* Regarding CE, from what I know it doesn't work quite well in p8 games so you/your merc will have to do more killing (more corpses) in order for CE be your main attack
* Poison dagger necro is another option
* Maybe some sort of elemental thrower (max LR curse)? Best weapon is gimmersherd but you can try some flying daggers/axes/javelins with elemental damage coupled with your best elemental charms

3. Sorc
* Lightning based
* Fire based
* Blizzard
* Meteorb
* Never tried it, but as @DiabloTwoinDC suggested - Blizz-baller
* Lightning/CL-Orb build
Anyway, same advise as trapper here, LR wand can really help here.

4. Amazon
* Magezon
* Lots of sub classes under bowazon category : FA-zon, Fire based, Physical based (max magic arrow and then choose strafe/multishot/guided)
* Lightning based builds (LF/poison, LF/Frozzen Arrow, Lightning Strike speare or javazon)

5. Druids
The biggest problem with druids is lack of good solution for physical immune critters. Consider using a weapon with elemental damage or CtC amp on strike on switch.
In addition to the listed builds you also have rabis druid and fire claws druid

"Best" is situational. If you're soloing in order to beat the game, then "best" would seem to exclude single elemental builds. E.g. if I am soloing Hell I'd much rather have a dual-tree sorc or hybrid-zon (LF+FA) than a pure blizz sorc or LF zon, even though blizz sorc and LF zons are "best" for their specific uses. Many of the "best" character builds are similarly situational, focused on being strong in specific tasks but aren't "best" for soloing the entire game.

This is something i am very interested in and i think i want to incorporate this in to my project. My concern would be getting the right build that matches each set. Is there reasoning for each build that you have chosen? For example Pally is my favorite character so why Avenger for Gris's Legacy?

Caveat (my opinion): Many of these recommendations are because these are the best builds for those sets, rather than the best gear for those builds. In most cases, runewords/uniques are better for each build, but it's nice to get some use out of the sets. You can of course complete the game with a naked character, so don't assume you absolutely have to use these build recommendations for the sets, do whatever is most fun for you!

M'avina's Battle Hymn
: M'avina's complements Freezing Arrow well due to the +20% To Cold Skill Damage (Complete Set) from the gloves. Plus, the set isn't particularly geared towards physical damage builds, but you can still Strafe pretty well with it. Most people go for a hybrid with Immolation Arrow because FA and IA need the same type of other gear. It's just a shame that Immolation arrow is hampered by the cooldown timer.

For an Ice Maiden/Magezon, the Ice Runeword bow is much better than the +20% CSD from the gloves, but since you don't have high end runewords, this set is pretty good.

Natalya's Odium: The set isn't the best gear for a Phoenix Striker, but Phoenix Striker is a good (perhaps the best?) build for the set. A more physical build will want more crushing blow from boots and helm slot but those are already taken up by the set, so the set is not a great fit for physical builds.

Immortal King: Whirlwind...'nuff said...oh you wanted more...okay...Concentrate is too slow/boring. Can't Double Swing/Frenzy/Throw with this set, Leap Attack is a novelty build (I'm making one but it is hard work) and that leaves Berserk. Whirlwind is just quicker.

Aldur's Watchtower: This set really sucks. No FCR and minimal + Skills means that any type of caster is out and there are way better options for pure Summoners. This leaves melee, but the weapon is very poor - being Exceptional(ly bad) rather than Elite, so you want to augment your physical attacks with an element - hence Fire Claws.

Trang-Oul's Avatar: The set bonus of -25% To Enemy Poison Resistance (3 Items) from the head and the inherent +25% Poison Skill Damage from the gloves mean you'll definitely want to be a Venomancer for this build.

Griswold's Legacy: Lots of sockets to customise your build, the weapon is rather good and complements Vengeance well. The straight Adds Damage set bonii work well with Vengeance and Jewels can ramp the minimum damage up quite a bit.

Another option is the Abbot build, fill the set with Sol runes for lots of Damage Reduction.

Tal Rasha's Wrappings:
This set can work with multiple builds, however, if you go Cold, you'll probably want to use Death's Fathom and Nightwing's Veil. If you go Lightning, you'll want to use Griffon's Eye. Fire on the other hand, doesn't have any great caster items (plus we're avoiding high end runewords). Therefore, it makes sense to go with a Fire hybrid build to make the most out of the set.

Amazon: I would make one classic bowa with strafe/guided and then I would make one elemental bowa with explosive arrow/freezing arrow. The elemental bowa is my absolute favorite char to run in the game!

Necromancer: I am currently running through a melee nec and absolutely loving it! you can make golems and a few melee skelies as tanks and then use curses for cc/dmg/survivablity. I tend to mostly use decrep and if I get low use lifetap. I dont use psn dagger on him but that can be a great option to increase attack rating and give you a fair bit of DOT however the psn takes forever to do its dmg (like 20ish sec) and you are limited to dagger weapons so I didnt go for psn dagger but its an option. He is not the strongest melee char at all but he can break phys immunes with amp dmg or decrep and can heal inanely well off life tap without having to rely on procs from things like dracs. Also I am maxing bone sheild and synergies and its absorbing like 700 dmg and I'm only lvl 60ish (havent played in a few days so im not sure the specific numbers but it is significant. If you go for this max the synergies first because they give 15 dmg/lvl and pts in bone shield only give 10 dmg/lvl)

GL man <3

edit: if you decide to go with a meleemancer feel free to pm me and I could go way more in depth on builds and strats and the pros and cons. Also I play him on players 8 and he does great but I havent started running hell yet im just farming nm cus im running him untwinked.

Just reading some of what you have sayd and doing minimal research it looks like really the 2 sets that are not that good and dont really have a place at all as end game equipment would be Aldurs and Natalyas. Im wondering if there is 2 sets i could use for a druid and an assasin instead of those. Any you can think you might recommend?

Natalaya's Odium not end game equipment? Excuse me but my Phoenix Striker runs the Hell Catacombs and Andariel all day with that set. Plus the Assassin looks cool in that get up too.

greatly sorry, with some further research i do see now that it is viable which just leaves aldurs..

Aldur works great with rabis druid. Fill the sockets/add equipment with CtC 'flee' and take act1 merc to deal with PIs. Another option is to equip some ipdr equipment and use Medusa Gaze shield for LR.

Sorry, I can see how my wording could have given the impression that Natalya's isn't good. I really meant it isn't the best gear for certain builds, for example it's not ideal for a kicker or trapper but it is a nice set overall. Certainly waaaaaaay better than Aldur's and I certainly wouldn't lump the two together.

I would rank them like this:

Best: Tal Rasha's Wrappings - very versatile/balanced set that works for all three skill tabs. Tonnes of options for builds including tri-elementalists. Individual items have decent utility too. Doesn't prevent use of Spirit shield. Great MF, good bonuses to cold skill damage and enemy resistances, FCR and resists.

Good: All the other class specific sets.

Worst: Aldur's Watchtower - not very good. Only saving grace is the huge stat boost, but hampered by the fact that you need to equip multiple items to receive said boost. Poor weapon for end game, prevents use of two handed beatstick, decent boots, poor helm, limited +skills, snorefest of an armour - especially with the mismatched +skills since you won't be an Elemental druid with this set.

Thank you for everyones input im going to write my updated list today i have some time off work to do my own research and put it together with what is written here by others, so it will be 4 builds plus one build incorporated with a Set, 35 characters. I also am thinking maybe completing Hell players 8 with all 35 is a stretch, my Zealot with Stormlash and HoZ made quick work of it but my Charger is starting to run into problems with all the bugs it is difficult to say the least. I change the plan to complete on Hell players 4 then circle back to each character and up the anti to players 8, gives me a reason to revisit my characters!
