Yeah, they do kid-friendly stuff. Oh, also My Neighbor Totoro is good.

Just so you know, some of the stuff off your list is Studio Ghibli, including Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.

Re: Best Anime Movies

If you look at ANN's top ten, most of those are quite decent. As far as movies go, add Ghost in the Shell to your list.

If you're looking for a movie that'll turn your head, check out Perfect Blue and Paprika for starters. Both are 18+.

Re: Best Anime Movies

Speaking of Studio Ghibli, is Hayao Miyazaki still making movies for it or has he finally retired? The last I heard of him (Which was several years ago) he seemed to be becoming the Hideo Kojima of anime.

Blood: The Last Vampire
Akira
The Vision of Escaflowne: The Movie
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack*
Karas The Prophecy/The Revelation (Technically it's a six part OAV, but if you choose to buy it in NA it's edited into two movies)
Laputa: Castle in The Sky
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
Porco Rosso
My Neighbor Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service

Whisper of The Heart
Appleseed

*You are pretty much required to know what happened in the Mobile Suit Gundam & Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam anime series to fully appreciate this movie
Everything highlighted are highly recommended Studio Ghibli works directed by Hayao Miyazaki, but as TT said, "Anything Studio Ghibli is golden."

Wind Named Amnesia - for a serious story
Slayers - if you like funny goofy stuff
Battle Angel Akita - for story and action

Spirited Away was awesome, I have Kiki's on tape from last week and I have to find time to watch it.

Oh, if you can find Akira, that's a classic. But definitely not for kids.

Spongebob Squarepants is pretty cool.

lol
Gotcha!
Anyway, I watched around 200 animus and most are KAWAII DESU NE~.
But now I don't have the time for that anymore. My rare freetime is filled with playing and modding Oblivion.
Not to mention I have over 200GB of Marvel comics to read. :(

Re: Best Anime Movies

Akira's not bad but I don't think it's particularly more adult than most anime movies.

If you're not restricting yourself to movies, Cowboy Bebop is one of the best television shows ever.

Re: Best Anime Movies

I've got a pretty good sized collection myself, though most of it is T.V. shows. Here are some of the movies:

Appleseed
Vampire Hunter D
Ghost in the Shell
Armitage: Dual Matrix
Steamboy
Slayers
Howl's Moving Castle
Metropolis
Akira
Harlock Saga
Read or Die
Jin-Roh

EDIT:

tarnok, don't forget there is a Cowboy Bebop movie also. ;)

Yeah, but I was somewhat under-whelmed by the movie. I think this is because one of the things that impresses me about Cowboy Bebop is how wonderfully self-contained it is.
