Beating a Charger

Some level 12 charger just pwned my level 24 pally. I couldn't hit him becuase he would just run off and charge, then run off.

Now, my zealot is built for PvM, but still - wth? How do you beat chargers?

BTW, I'm a PvP noob and (relatively) multi -noob.

I'm not a PvP expert, but you can position yourself in a corner, so he cannot knock you back, that will prevent him from charging you repeatedly and from running around as he likes. It's probably him who started the whole, so he has to come to you and not the other way around which means that you can decide where the fight takes place.

the question is, how do you beat lld pkers?
Well, by building a lld dueler yourself. those character are created to kill builds like your build and that's the only reason they exist. some of them combine gear more costly then some of the hld duelers. There is noting you can do but run and don't get killed.

If he's getting away then he's got you beat - that's your chance to get him. Even if you stick yourself in a corner, if he can get away far enough just to charge you again, it's already over. Lower levels makes it more difficult as movement speed makes a huge difference, and aside from the sorcs no one has teleport. Charge will allow him a superior advantage - unless he makes some serious mistakes or some teamwork is involved (or you switch to a higher more powerful character) don't expect to win.

While I always frown upon pkers (I prefer pvp combat when I'm looking for it) I honestly wouldn't be too concerned. Pkers are geared with one goal in mind, and at the lower levels its going to be very hard to handle if your build isn't pvp oriented to begin with.

I honestly wouldn't worry about pkers if your goal is pvm, they'll come around from time to time but not worth adjusting your build for pvp, since you would have to.

As far as pkers go, most don't hold up well in a fair fight so they pick on the weak. A few skilled duelers do get bored and go for some pk action from time to time, but really the majority don't hold up well in "fair" fights.

It just seems that since I am double in level I should be able to hold my own. So I take it zealots aren't a good PvP build?

Double in levels means noting in pk. That's the whole point. With someone of your level, you wouldn't have tried to win, yet because of the huge level difference, you thought you had a chance - which clearly, you didn't.

P.S. Clegclaws zealots are quite decent IIRC.

If your level should be an advantage in any way, it first of all requires you've about the same availability of items, secondly that for each extra stat point you've got, you've used some of these in areas he'd had spended these if he had the chance, likewise with skill points, and if you want to have any advantage of your level in the hit checks, don't run, use walk or stand still, if he really tried to charge away from you, he'd have had 0 defense in those moments and you could, if you'd blocked his attack and had a high enough speed (hit check must come before he charges out of range) you could have landed quite a lot of zeals on him.

I'd think a low level charger would run out of mana and potions pretty quickly. Stay alive long enough and outlast him.

Some gear suggestions - Twitchthroe unique body armor, boosts block 20%, faster hit recovery 20%, both of which you'll need. Get a shield with the suffix "Of Deflecting". Other equipment, use things that boost your HP.

Make sure you have a source of cold damage for the slowing too.

As you can see, gearing to handle pkers (or pvp in general) often is a different dynamic than pvm. Unless you plan on pvping regularly don't let the occasional pker throw you off.
