Beast for summoner - what weapon?

I have some leftover runes that I would like to use b4 they disappear so I figured a beast would be nice for my summoner. But I wonder what weapon would be good? A low req one since I wont melee with anything? hes currently at lvl 45 so Im open to all suggestions.
Would the increased damage be significant enough to ditch aokl on switch and use cta instead? My army doesnt really need it but I figured the wisp projectors HoW will die without it.

hmmm, my summoner is using a 5 socket berserker axe beast. although its str req is a little bit high, it is acceptable with some boost from items.

it was really fun with a high dmg beast since i always trans into a bear and get into a "real" fight. btw, it is much easier to create the 1st corpse whenever my summoner joins a game.

Yeah that was my first choice too but I figured dmg is not important since my army + ce will do the dirty work. I was thinking a low req but fast weapon would be nice because I might join in on baal fights and attack with cb and ow.

A Caduceus also works well. It doesn't have obscene requirements and still packs a punch.

Hmm a zerker would be the most practical for several reasons :

    a) It hits lwwp for a WW axe barb
    b) One of the highest damaging 1-hander so pallys, barbs and other classes would be able to use it
    c) In case you wish to trade it in the future it has high trade value. I have seen rich people making beast in double axe but they dun engage in battle in bear form :D
    d) The str req is not a problem at all if one wears some +str gear. Most employ an Enigma.
    e) @ the pally forums they have a build called the Palabear. The pally uses Beast r/w to turn into bear and use holyshield to buff up bears innate high defence and obtain max block easier. A Beast caddy with +3 holyshield and a spirit r/w in pally shield would be awesome for this build :D (Zero-Unit has a guide to the Palabear and Wolfbarb)

    Cheers!

Actually this will be my last build for a while (maybe forever). Ive been occupied with other stuff lately so ive been neglecting d2 a bit. So after finishing this char Im putting it all aside for now. Thats why I dont care how the beast would work with other classes/builds. But thx anyway for your input :)
I think I will go with a regular war scepter if I cant get a hold of a caduceus any time soon.

Warspike is much more common (best place appears to be Hell cows), does a smidge less damage (1 point less average dmg), but gives the same speed as Caduceus. Since this may be your last character, I'd recommend a spike. You still have to find one with 5 sockets though which will be a pain.

Are you on USWest ladder? I've been doing a lot of Cow runs. If I happen to find a good War Spike or Caddy with 5 sockets I'll give it to you for free if you give it back with it's happy new contents when you quit Diablo. :D

If you can't find a caddy...then go with the zerker axe instead.

Hmm... Come to think of it, Caddy may be the easiest since it Larzuks to 5 sockets and it gets decent odds of dropping from a lot of the Superuniques. If it were my Necro, I'd go for the caddy for perfection's sake. If I were in a hurry just to get a Beast for my final character, I'd take a Warspike if that was more readily available. Zerker is a bit demanding on the IAS for necros although I'm not sure how IAS works out in Werebear form.

Ive taken some time to go for look for a caddy but I havent found one yet, I will go with a war scepter if one doesnt show up soon
but I dont understand one thing; why go for a high dmg weapon when I wont rely on my dmg to kill stuff?
I have some questions about fana aura thou. Does the ias and ar help skellies? Is the dmg added together with the % on the raise skellie icon or is it multiplied with the dmg shown on icon?

In case you get bored of your Necro you can trade it away for something good. ;)

Go to the last page of my guide for sample calculations.

    P.S. You play MTG?

Like I said this will probably be my last build for now. Ive been occupied with other stuff and just grown tired of d2 lately
So I think I will go for a war scepter for ease.

    Where is your guide?

Dont think so, never heard of it :p

Double Axe, Military Pick, and War Axe can also come with 5 sockets with lower requisites.

Hm, is ias really helping out skellies? It seems like they attack at the same rate w/ or w/out fana.

I think better than beast is a simple wand from the merchants with the stats
    +3 summoning skills/+3 skeleton mastery/+3 raise skeleton/+3skeleton mages

Use that for prebuff. Use Beast after army is summoned.

Yes I do believe even a aokl would add more dmg but fana is just nice for style points
Prebuff is an option but Im going with the cta + how route.
So does ias help skellies at all?

According to RTB it does, but we don't have any IAS breakpoints.
