Battlenet newbie

Hello everyone. I have been lurking these forums for 2 years, mainly to get char guides, never bothered to post something. Im playing SP only - trying to collect all set/uniques (got about 60%) and now finally i will be getting decent internet connection so i have some questions about battlenet (from other peoples posts i have seen that most of players lack of intelligence and/or proper culture). First and foremost i hate any form of cheating ((map)hacks), dupes...) so i wanted to ask how hard is to find legit players on realms? Are duped "nigmas" and hacked stuff and maphackers common thing or exception (aka should i skip playing multiplayer diablo and play WoW instead?)? Also i am curious why people need perfect gems for, as a SP player i have only used topazi and diamonds (to lesser degree other stuff for rune cubing) and i have seen that people trade away shakos, mesh's and other top gear for gems, why is that?

Thanks, and sorry for poor grammar

Well, im a legit player. I wouldnt say that hacks are common nor would i say its an exception. Much of the highlevel runeword stuff is hacked, but most of the lower level stuff isnt at all (makes sense right).

perfect gems are consumed in the magic item reroll cube recipe. Basically, transmute a magic item and 3 Pgems, and you get a magic item of the same class and ilvl but different mods. This is used a lot in rerolling of grand charms, to get skillers. Ive also heard of rerolling baal small charms and jewels. Top gear generally doesnt go for gems, unless an enormous amount. Shako should be about 40 Pgems, which is about the upper limit in pgem trading. Pgems are also used in crafting, particularly amethysts and rubies.

Is there a software that lets you see other peoples stuff if they are hacked/duped or you just use common sense? I remember i used one 5-6 years ago when playing orginal Diablo, but i can't remember his name. What realm are you on?

If you were to use such a program you would be using a hack yourself. Just play legit yourself and you'll have more fun. You will run across hackers and the the particularly loathsome, lowdown, unskilled, evil Pickit trash but there is little you can do about it except leave the game and move on to another one.

You can build a friends list and play with other legit players in password protected games.

PS did I mention that Pickit users should be boiled in oil?
