Yeah the article is serious. They were just doing it in a sarcastic way.

Re: Battle.Net will cost money in the future

This article is... almost 2 years old? Didn't we already have epic threads discussing that exact quote?

Besides, I doubt anything we have now will actually be changed to cost money. I remember something vaguely about exceptionally good custom maps getting a tiny price that would split the revenue between the creator of that map and Blizzard. I am assuming they were also talking about the different region pricing structures (i.e. the "pay for 6 months of Battle.net 2.0 access" that exists in Russia and elsewhere).

The question is, whenever Blizzard will be brazen enough to charge for the chat channels, cross region play, and guild/clan support type of things. We'll see. As long as it's nothing that impacts on-line gameplay or splits communities I'm fine.

If they did something like Microsft XBL then I wouldn't have an issue with it. It still is a wait and see I guess.

Everything in the article indicates it knows absolutely nothing of what it's talking about and jumps to conclusions (logic and open-mindedness = out the window).

Suffice it to say, we'll have to see how it pans out. I don't fall for their baseless speculations though.

    ......

    What?

That article makes no sense whatsoever and has got to be some kind of retardation. And as previously mentioned, nearly 2 years old.

Blizzard has recently stated that they WILL charge to play on battle.net, but ONLY in countries where that is a usual method of payment. That will not be the case for the U.S. and selected other countries.

That article reads as if it was a slow "news" day and that's all he could pop out.

I do expect Blizzard to have some sort of optional pricing model in the future, the influence probably coming from Mr. Kotick aka the douche.

Re: Battle.Net will cost money in the future

Everyone should expect to see option cost items/features in just about every major game release from here on out. It is too successful and too lucrative for developers to not include.

That said, it is very unlikely that Blizzard would straight up charge for access to play games on Bnet in the U.S.

I guess I am the odd man out, but I don't really mind microtransactions as long as I don't feel like I HAVE to purchase them to play the game and have fun.

Re: Battle.Net will cost money in the future

i am ok with some of them myself, but some games take it to a whole new level. games like sims 3 is just crazy with it. i am ok with paying for additional content and whatever but if they are selling items then its almost like you have to buy them to compete and thats what i dont like

Re: Battle.Net will cost money in the future

Well with extra content, I see it as basically the network equivalent of the collector's edition vs vanilla game.

I doubt they'd add in new items or skills or something since that will just mess with balancing even more. Graphically, I can see something happening. Some cameo animation (skins looking like WoW or SC chars, etc), background menu gfx, etc would actually be nice to have, maybe worth spending on, and nothing game breaking.

Thats spot on Apoc. It is really frustrating when it seems like you purchased 50% of the game up front and then the other 50% is in the microtransactions.

Re: Battle.Net will cost money in the future

Microtransactions are ok if they're worth it (ie. actually new content that is worth the price). Crap like $5 for a few new items which certainly did not take as much effort to create as 1/10 of a $50 game but are of course mandatory to build the best character will no longer be tolerated by the players. I hope.

Re: Battle.Net will cost money in the future

Honestly, I would love it if they did charge 9 or so bucks a month.

That alone would change the face of battlenet. But, I would have rather had WoD than WoW in the first place.
