basic sorc questions

I'm building a mf blizzard sorc using tal's set. I've saved up about 100 stat points and am not sure whether to put them in mana or life. I put a couple points in energy shield - with equip bonuses it absorbs about 60% damage if that makes a difference.

Also, should I develop a second skill for cold immunes, or just build up a merc to deal with them? I'm at lvl 76 and have put almost everything in the cold tree, but still have a ways to go to max out all synergies - about 3500 dmg right now.

And last, what equip should I look for to complement Tal's set?

Did you put any points into telekenesis? that is highly advised to be maxed, as it lower the amount of mana taken for every point energy shield absorbs. For stat points, since you will be using energy shield, it wouldn't hurt to get a nice pool of mana, try to get around 500-800. For the rest, into vitality.

Since you will be using energy shield, i'd avise sticking to blizzard and its synergies, or you might end up with two weak skills in two different trees, as apposed to one strong one in one tree.

Merc's are always helpful to have, as when they are leveled and strongly equipped they can put out very exceptional damage.

To complete your tal's set, since this is an MF build, i'd suggest war travelers, nagelrings or one nagel/soj, frostburns/magefists (depending on if you've reached the 63% FCR breakpoint yet), and sanctuary towershield/stormshield/lidless wall (depending if you've reached the 63% FCR breakpoint yet).

ok, i've been going back and forth whether to finish equipping my sorc first, or get some gear for my merc - i've only got enough pgems to trade for one or the other right now (about 60). i'm leaning towards finishing my sorc first - if i die, my merc dies anyway. so how many pgems should I offer for the recommended gear?

Common reachable FCR BP's are 63 FCR and 105 FCR... if you're going to use ES, make sure you have some points in telekenisis... or else all your mana will be gone in no time.
