Bashiok says "no", 2 Blizzcon Demo Video

This is taken from the official forums.

Cat3611- "I've been searching the web now looking for videos of the blizzcon demo. I havnt been able to find any. I'm not talking about the 20 minute gameplay video on the main d3 site but the playable demo at blizzcon. Does anyone have some links to videos that show the gameplay for the blizzcon demo?"

Bashiok- "No pictures or video was allowed to be captured from the playable demo. And linking to pictures or video of the BlizzCon floor demo is a bannable offense here. This a friendly warning."

Guess we don't have to worry about be banned on these forums. So I went to search for some video for myself. This is what I have found so far.

Feel free to post anything you have and I will post more if I find anything else.

reyoo,

Everyone in here knows how to use a search engine. So your efforts aren't really necessary, thank you. No one asked. On the other hand this is a friendly forum committed to discuss, admire, but also respect Blizzard's work. I see no reason for this type of behavior.

With that in mind, I'm afraid I have reported this thread.

Someone did ask. And what exactly did you report me for? As far as I know I have broken no forum rules.

I believe you may have. But I'm not sure. So I did what I felt should be done; Help the mods notice the thread and let them decide. I'm going with whatever they say. As for my personal opinion, you know that already.

Now I am no rocket surgeon but the site is called...

"Diii.net, The UNOFFICIAL Site"

Why would Bashiok have a say on what we do here?

Hmm I don't really see a need to report him. I mean, I can see how ya might see it as questionable behavior, but it's publicly available stuff and good links.

Yeah. Reporting him is pretty fanatical.

This is a fan-site, so obviously this kind of thing is expected.

Lindsay Lohan may or may not want Esquire posting her junk hanging out all the time but, that's what their intended audience wants, so thats what they get.

As I said, it was the thread that was reported. Or the post, if you will. Not the person. Neither it's my intention to hostile anyone, but to call the moderators attention to the thread since I have doubts about it. Sue me.

Didn't want to discuss the details, but since I'm becoming popular on this thread...

The videos (with the exception of the sorceress demo) are, to my knowledge, in fact illegal material. Made without consent from Blizzard on a private commercial convention where people actually have to pay money to assist. They show material intended only for said convention and only Blizzard holds the rights to disclose any video footage.

If Bashiok was sparse in the reasons why Blizzard would ban anyone posting links on the official forums to these videos, it's my guess he felt there is no need to explain the obvious.

In any case, it follows that on the DIII forums this thread is displaying links to illegal material. A breach of the forums rules.

Now, if the moderators agree to this, I'll be as a happy camper as I was before. It's not up to me to judge the OP actions or the forum rules. I just -- and I stress this before the personal insults get out of hand -- want to call the moderators attention to this thread.

Thank you.

:eek:mg: Flying bats climbing stairs lmao. Ah aha ho my stomach hurts that seriously gave me a good laugh. I can understand why they might not want us looking at that. *wiping tears out of eyes* That would make great machinema humour.

Bravo, Bravo.:worship:

Kruger has pointed out how his actions are perfectly by the rules of this furum and all of our greater morals.
It is his (and all of you) duty as a participant of humanity to stamp out injustice wherever it may reside.

Shame on you all, have you no decency. Illegal material no less. Have you no respect for the law.

I shall be refraining from clicking on those links.

ILLEGAL MATERIAL!!. On the internet?:nono:

Re: Bashiok says "no", 2 Blizzcon Demo Video

After the event we posted links to some good interface photos taken of the screens at Blizzcon. And removed the links when Blizzard asked. As did the site (JoyStik, IIRC) that posted them. so we're not going to post links to it on the main page, but I don't think we need to thought police you guys into not sharing links to material that's freely available.

it's kind of ironic, since companies usually want to limit this type of exposure since they were showing work that was still under development. So fansites that have good quality images and videos take them down. But the pixelly crap on YouTube and elsewhere remains up, and that really is of such low image quality that it makes the game look bad.

Incidentally, that wegame video isn't contraband; it's the wizard gameplay movie that was on the blizzcon press cd. we posted that from the show, as did every other gaming site on the internet.

Save your righteous hammer of justice for people who deserve it, like rapists and murderers. It's a video game. Plus, nobody appointed you to be the internet police.

These videos being out only strengthens Diablo 3's hype. Blizzard has rocks in their collective head if they think more video footage of this game will damage anything.

It's not my moral duty to refrain from watching a video because Blizzard said no. If I want to watch it, I will. Shame on those who took the video, but it's already done, and it did no harm. May as well enjoy it. I repeat, it's just a video game. This isn't a matter of nuclear war.

So much stupid drama. Just watch the video, go "Cool, nice footage" and be done with it. Why is that so hard?

Pretending like you're some valiant knight upholding the law and defending justice in the face of temptation over footage of a video game is... ugh.

The fact that you'd waste your time tattling on such a petty thing shows your true intent here; you thrive on being a joy kill that grasps at every technicality if you get to be viewed as righteous and correct in the end.

If Blizzard really didn't want these videos seen, they'd have already had them pulled from YouTube when they were posted 7 months ago. They don't need you. Sorry if that offends your overinflated sense of self-importance.

See, because Blizzard is probably doing something very similar to what I'm trying to explain to you; they understand the technicality of the matter is that taking videos of the footage was against their permission, however since the response to said videos has been very positive, they probably see value in letting them stay up and thus haven't bothered having them pulled, even though it may technically be against their wishes that the videos were taken in the first place.

The world ain't black and white. It's a shade of gray that made Blizzard decide not to pull the videos (I assume, there's no other logical explanation), and it's a shade of gray that's now telling you to just lay off and not report everything that you find questionable, waiting with bated breath for Blizzard to show up at your house and give you a high-five.

Anyways, this isn't a flame, I'm being very serious in my criticism of your actions and telling you precisely how I feel about it.

tl;dr version: Krugar, go get some fresh air or something.

There's nothing wrong with reporting a thread which you think might cause a problem and certainly there's no harm in doing so. If the thread isn't a problem then nothing happens, but if there is an issue then at least it was brought to someones attention so they can act on it. In either case I don't really see a problem with what happened.

Can we try to move the discussion back to the topic of the thread?

I remember seeing another video of what I think was some gameplay at Blizzcon, but I don't remember where it was. Still it showed several people working together and hacking down some monsters. The gameplay does indeed look very smooth at the moment which is a good sign.

A group of three wizards, by chance?

It was my first observation too a few months ago, when I first saw them. The quality of the videos don't give room to much more. But I did appreciate the smooth animation and game flow.

Another thing I noticed was the seemingly relaxed players and how controls didn't seem to get in their way. No one was on the verge of contracting carpal tunnel.

You're the one being the drama queen out of this with your huge respond.
Reporting is used when you're not sure, just as he did. The thread hasn't been deleted or locked, it has even been replyied by a mod with his own link.

I really think that Blizzard should have more demos out as all those ''unofficial'' videos seem to have some low quality that it seems like the game will not be good looking at all.

Re: Bashiok says "no", 2 Blizzcon Demo Video

Granted I am fairly new to this forum so I don't know all the particulars but I take Bashiok to be someone involved with Blizzard somehow.

My take is this: While it may not be illegal to post the links, it is likely illegal to have them, depending on what jurisdiction the persons who are hosting them are in. The applicable laws could vary from privacy laws to civil copyright but none of that likely matters. Out of respect for Blizzard in general and Bashiok in particular the links should not be posted.

In reference to whether it is a site violation or not, it also really doesn't matter. This is a private forum and someone else decides what is Ok and what isn't. Their house, their rules. If that is somehow offensive then anyone is free to take their marbles and play somewhere else.

Anyone is free to disagree with any post and/or report it. Personally I give Krugar lots of respect for actually announcing his disagreement and subsequent report. It would have been much easier to not respond and report it anyway.

In my honest opinion, it shouldn't be wrong or illegal to post stuff from Blizzcon. not everyone is able to attend it. i sure as hell wanted to, and even IF everyone wanted to go, there is a limited number of tickets. so should those unfortunate masses that DIDN'T get to go, be punished. by not letting us see what we all wanted and deserved to see? its bad enough that we didn't get a chance to play the demo. the least they can do is allow us to see it as the attendees did.

i just call that being fair, so thank you for posting those links.

I posted a video of someone taking the latest Blizzcon discussion video thingy, the one that show the WD's firebat and Wizard's arcane orb and Blizzard skill but it seems one of the MOD removed it.
