    Race etc.

as a general rule if otherwise well behaved but the person is exhibiting signs of this do you.
    1) Judge other known Factors and context?
    2) Listen or ask a leading question?
    3) Point out the problem politely?

Maybe if you made a bit more sense in what you're asking for?

Racism is such an over-used claim that it really debases those few legitimate incidents exist. I once pointed out a friend who was in a group of pasty-faced college kids as "the other black guy" and he had a hissy. I think I already referred to the incident with another friend during a traffic stop in Alabama.

I'm not sure about the question as well. I guess it's how to react if an otherwise well-behaved person makes racistic or offensive comments.

The degree of attention and responsiveness depends on how much I appreciate him or at least his point of view. If a certain border is crossed, things might have changed irrevocably, however.

If you are going to make a comment here which appears racistic on a glance, but which is actually meant as e.g. an ironic criticism of racistic points of view or politically over-correct people, then either make it crystal clear that this message is transported perfectly. In case of doubt, the mods will take people by the word. I'm still taking statements with a grain of salt, but don't count too much on it :).

BTW, I haven't banned anybody for at least a year now, probably longer... not counting spambots, of course.

    **** *** ****, ** **** **** **** **** ** ****!

No, wait - I didn't mean that. It was a pun. Or a palindrome. (Or was it onomatopoeia?)

    Yeah. That.

    Hi @Ariadne
    :D

I was more in "spambot kill mode than anything" but the marketing translations to english and bias had me thinking more generally than anything.

So yah like him I'm kind un unconscious about racism.

Spambot-swatting is a 3-click job (repeated ad nauseam) and about as entertaining as watching paint dry. Trust me, you're better off sticking to the pants/wallet/taco gig. :p

To answer the original question. #2 if I'm interested enough to pick brains. #1 is par for the course (if I'm curious enough to ask questions in the first place anyway). #3 often leads to obstinate reactions, but I'm aware of my own general cynicism about people so I'll try (once) even if I know it's doomed to fail.

I have no idea what we're talking about (or why) but thanks for the distraction from my perpetual insomnia.

It still feels strange if I don't have to do it for a while, it makes me wary. Where are they hiding, where??

Besides, if there's no paint to watch drying, what am I doing all day long then?

I'm happy enough with watching capitalism destroy itself to some extent every few decades. The trick is to be not among what will fall apart. I don't think that it's worth fighting capitalism because it's too much a part of human nature. It's enough if we prevent the four apocalyptic horsemen to do that instead of us.

I leave the fight against capitalism or whatever to the young people. It's them who are expected to strive for radical goals, in order to fulfill their roles in societies. My role is to become cynical about them, so I canfeel superior without having to do anything about it.

jmervyn is doing basically the same!
