Back to D2. Need Sorc spec help!

I just started playing D2 again after many years. I quit when 1.10 came out so it has been a while. I've been reading around on some meteorb spec's and have found two, but I don't know which would be better to use.

I'm at a loss as to which one to follow. I'm leaning more towards the second one. My friend who started again with me is going to follow one on gamefaqs which from what he told me seems to be the same as the second one. I'm pretty poor on D2 at the moment so I don't have any twink gear.

Any suggestions on which guide I should follow? Which would do max damage? Any suggestions on the order of skill distribution?

I also read though the stats part and noticed that they both say not to put stats in energy? Can anyone explain why? The explanation in the guides are not very clear.

Any help on clearing this up would be greatly appreciated!

The first one is the short summary of the 2nd one, but taking the changes of 1.11 into account, were some new runewords were introduced, namely "Spirit" runeword, which can be made in a Monarch at the lowest.

The difference between the two guides is, that the one from sasja is the original guide and the one with the most details. You can go along with any of the two, but i think the first one by Eilo will suffice.

Just make sure beforehand whether you will go for max-blocking with your shield of choice or whether you will go down the vitality route.
