Back from a long break-- "rushing" question

Hey y'all... Sorry if this has been asked but I've looked for some time and I can't find the answer.
Anyway, I played quite a bit of D2 way back when (Before 1.09? Or whatever the "huge" patch was. Granted, there might have been more than one. Anyway), and I just decided to start up again. When I was playing, after the first few characters that I (and people in general) leveled up real high, they would typically "rush" the rest of the characters by paying some guy something or another fairly small but still sizable (I don't really remember how much) through Hell Baal (or less, if they had less money) and then just farm cows to get to level 99 or whatever. Basically, just avoiding the monotony of going through Act 1 Normal for the 50th time, which is quite frankly the dullest activity around.

So, a few questions. I remember around when I quit, the new patch was about to come out I believe and people were thinking that it might eliminate rushing (I don't really remember how). Did that happen? Because that would suck.

If it DIDN'T eliminate rushing- is there some sort of organized system for getting rushed? I.e. there is a trading forum here, is there some way to ensure an "honest" rush?

And lastly, what is the typical payment? Obviously I assume it varies, but I have no idea if its 1 PGem or 50.

Anyway I believe that's all I can think of for now. Sorry if this has been asked before .

I only play Single Player, but from what I've gleaned, many people will rush you in exchange for the rune that will drop from your Hell Hellforge. Some may do it just to be nice, but a polite request and a rune usually trump a polite request.

It sounds to me like you last played during the 1.09 patch. Cows aren't the levelling paradise they used to be, and the game has changed significantly with synergies and the like. Welcome back, and I hope you have success and enjoyment.

To add some more info:

The rushing in LOD was complicated by the ancients quest which you can't complete untill you're level 20/40/60 on normal/nightmare/baal.
There are two ways how to bypass this:
1.) The glitch rush - you get the baal quest while in town, but partied with other char whoo also needs the quest and is down in the worldstone chamber when baal is killed.
2.) Classic rush - you create a classic character, get rushed into act iii in classic and then convert to expansion.

The classic rush is ofcourse more comfortable because you don't need the so called "gater" to bypass the ancient quest, but not everyone have classic rusher and the people who do mostly want to get paid for the rush. As said by Noodle, you can get the glitch rush for free/hellforge drop.
