Back again for the 10th time....what is it about this game

I left around christmas of last year, but started to feel the pull of this game again back in july. I tried to be strong and wait for a reset, but since there is no news on the horizon, I decided to make my way back early.

Of course my mules, my 92 hammerdin with nigma, arachs etc, my windy with nigma and tons of other stuff are long gone.

But the funny thing is, I don't really care. It is the getting rich that is fun, once I am rich, I quickly lose interest and retire again.....only to find myself crawling back later.

I can't believe no publisher has copied the formula adequately to replace this game. The closest thing was guild wars...but the missions and items were so damn boring...I quickly lost interest.

Titan quest had the right idea, but without secure servers to trade on...what is the point of amassing uber items?

yes this game is flawed, yes there are hackers and lamers of all types. But the economy here is the best offered by a free game. And also the fact that a solo player can get rich with very little time investment as long as he knows the game and the economy is what brings me back every time.

    Welcome back.

Just do what I do: Don't "retire", just "take a break". It's all in the wording, you see. Then, when you do come crawling back, as most of us do, you can just say, "Ah, that was a fun break. I think I'm going to start over from scratch."

When Hellgate: London finally hits the shelves, I will be taking a very, very long break from D2; and if D3 is announced sometime in the next 10 years, I'll be taking an even longer break.

I need to google this game. I've been hearing a little here and a little there...but haven't done any reading on it yet.

And welcome back! I actually started playing SP, which is more fun to me now than the realms... don't have to deal with Bnet folks.

its almost like crack or wow without the monthly payments

its good practice to hone your money making skills before the ladder resets
    (if it ever does)

And a one, and a two and a ... zing.

Release is quite a ways off, so you've got lots of time to read up.

Thank you. I just registered and posted for the first time

I thought about changing my forum name...since this one's meaning is long gone -- had meaning to my D2 friends who I don't even talk to anymore :undecided: But, I guess I'm still the same old bg1256:thumbsup:

OT: I'm done hijacking this thread now -- proceed as before!

You keep coming back to this game because of the item "easter egg" hunting. Getting rewards (e.g. drops) makes your body release hormones to which you get addicted.

It works very much like drugs or alcohol adiction.

i've been playing PvM solo for quite some time .. only recently did i make the jump to LoD .. well, as if d2c wasn't addictive enough.

now i've found the forums .. thousands of like-minded addicts. like one large therapy group, except no one here thinks they have a real problem ;)

    welcome back!

I've got a lvl24 sp zealot going right now, pretty much just because I haven't bought a PC game in the last six years

oh wait, I got civ III but I hated it

maybe I should go buy Pirates! and then never play d2 again...

    the hold must be broken...

imo 1 of the factor is because you dont have to pay those monthly fee to play this game (excluding the price for the discs) so they always come back
