Back after 3 years, need some advice.

Back after 3 years, need some advice.

So I, like many couldn't stand waiting for D3 any longer and decided to have another "last go" at one of my favorite games, the game that got me into gaming. Good ol diablo 2. Sure enough after a couple years my characters are gone, expected, but sad.

Undeterred, I did some research, determined a simple Meteor/orb mf sorc would be a solid first character back, and I've started lvling him. Only problem is, I haven't exactly met alot of friendly people, and all my friends no longer play.

I can't even kill the summoner at the point stuck on act 2 in norm. But I'm sure i'll luck out eventually.

Any advice for someone who hasnt played for 3-4 years? Anything at all would help

Thanks in advance.

Oi, stuck on summoner? That's pretty harsh.

The meteorb is a somewhat slower progressing build, as a lot of Sorceresses are. But what level are you? If you're in there at a low level, that could be why.

Apparently countess runs are good for low level items, I've never tried it. You could also try gambling for some items. In the sorceress section of this forum (as most of the sections of these forums) there is a donation thread where people give out stuff they don't need. I'm sure a few decent items will definitely aid your quest.

But yea, meteorb is tough at starting point. Make sure you're at a decent level. If you're really stuck then all I can say is that you look up another build.

By the way, I'm *Golden_Bird_V on USeast SCL. I'd happily kill the summoner if you're on the same realm for you.

I assume you are in Normal, so say around level 22ish going up against the Summoner. You should have a fairly decent Fireball right about now, and that should be your primary attack skill. Just spam it away and you'll wipe everything out from a distance.

How exactly are you getting stuck against the Summoner?

Welcome back :) I started playing D2 again just a while ago too and if you're on EuSCL, I could play with you. Either help you with my lvl 48 meteorb sorc or tag along to actually play the game with my lvl 16 K/T hybrid assassin (once I catch up a few levels, of course).

As for some advice, hmm.. Before I got my Blizzard and Frozen Orb, I pretty much used some cold attack - usually Frost Nova - to slow monsters and then melee them down. This tactic is of course slower than spamming away with big balls of fire but it'll get you through without having to spend every single gold you have on mana potions.

I don't know if you've heard about this runeword "Spirit"? I don't think it was in the game 3-4 years ago, could someone tell me? :D Well, anyway. It's very cheap (tal + thul + ort + amn) and oh-so-useful. It can be made in a 4 socket sword or shield and I just happen to have a 4os sword and some runes required for it. The shield may be a bit harder to get but you should try getting the sword first.

Let me know if you're on EuSCL :)

EDIT: D'oh... My account is *w4n

Re: Back after 3 years, need some advice.

Hey guys, Thanks for the responses. I am on the USWest realm. The problem with the sorc last night was i was only lvl 18, saving stats so i couldnt do anything, and at the time there were no trist tomb or chaos runs going.

I actually did a bit more research and managed to get 2 of the runes for spirit.

As for the summoner, I was only lvl 18 with lvl 1 skills, so hed own me solo, but my friend says he still has a toon that can run me through some of this stuff. So that should make things a bit easier.

Also started a fishymancer, Really digging him so far as necros were always my fav class, but sucked back when i used to play.

Think ill be switching to fishymancer for a while, anyone have any general advice for THAT?

oh hey, im on NL West too. I can rush you or help you out if you need. If you just want to play the game through, fishymancer is pretty simple to do that. I used Trang's with a AoKL, marrow boots, random rings, and ammy for simple start up. I have some spare Trang's. Drop me a pm here with your account and I'll msg you when your on. Check out the necro forums for some fishy guides.

cya!

I'll prolly rush a char of my own soon as well so you're welcome to join that.

Re: Back after 3 years, need some advice.

One thing you can do to get some easy gear is to run the act bosses even on normal. When I was high enough level (36+ or so) and was waiting for my friend to come online so we could play together, I just farmed norm Andy, Mephisto, Diablo, Shenk and Eldricth (I think that's the name).

That got me some decent rares and I even managed to find a Nagelring somewhere! Sorceresses are of course best boss runners before you can afford an enigma due to teleport but Diablo shouldn't be too bad to run on a Fishymancer, so you could start there, when you're higher level. :)

If you are truly "Non-Ladder"; I believe the "Spirit" rune-word is still "Ladder Only" so don't waste the runes-

I do the same as you and store my points up until I figure out what kinda build I want to make. If you're sure on the Met/Orb you can afford to start using a few points. If you prefer to save them for a bit (like me) what I do is pick up any decent 2+ open socket bow and waste some of those gems you have. Sorc's stay alive better with a ranged attack than melee. I also make good use of the Merc. Sure you might have to revive them a few times but it's better than you dieing and loosing exp. I actually burn through most of the gems/jewels I find if I'm going un-twinked. Rubies & Skulls are great for + to life and regen in armor/helms.

Also-
Keep your eyes out for "Tir & Ral" runes so you can make a "Leaf" rune-word (lvl 19) - a begining Sorc's best friend! You can even shop 2 o/s Staves (not orb) from vendors and many will have the extra mods that will make your Leaf a great one! (Make sure it's a "grey" non-magical one and not "blue" magical)

Here's the set stats:
Adds 5-30 Fire Damage
+3 To Fire Skills
+3 To Fire Bolt (Sorceress Only)
+3 To Inferno (Sorceress Only)
+3 To Warmth (Sorceress Only)
+2 To Mana After Each Kill + (2 Per Character Level)
+2-198 To Defense (Based On Character Level)
Cold Resist +33%

Thanks for the advice, Wish I'd kept the two socket staff from last night. I personally prefer act 2 mercs.

For a Sorc in Norm - ActII Combat (prayer) Merc all they Way! The first 2(+) O/S fast merc stick that drops gets cold & lite gems and he rocks!

I was shopping (Drognan I think?) last night for a 2 soc stave for my up-and-coming Enchantress and I know I saw quite a few "+3 fire-ball" + random mod(s) - for sale... Might be easier than waiting for a drop- Let me know what mod's you are looking for and if I find a decent one I can purchase it for you (I'm also on US-W SC NL).
