Back after 10 years - people are nicer!

I quit this game shortly after they brought out Act 5 mostly because so many people were constantly trying to cheat, trash talk and going hostile.

Now after 10 years I am pretty well shocked to see a major transformation in attitude.

First off I started a Barb for a mule and some guy came in and gave me so much amazing end game gear that I coudln't take it all even on my other toons. Then I traded an item for Windforce and that guy piled tons more items on me. Regularly high level players are running lower players through the acts. Ive only encountered a couple of jerks in three weeks or so of play.

Its a very pleasant place to play now.

its most likely

1. there are too many bots around, people are overloaded with items
2. diablo2 is an old game most people who still play are old timer who probably by now grew up a bit.

I think because people are so bored now having beat everything and gotten all the gear. Also that everyone is used to playing with just bots that when they see a real live player they go crazy and try to offload extra gear taking space just to have a little bit of social contact with a real person.

I had been doing Baal runs for about 4 nights when someone told me that the person I was talking too, and not responding, was a bot. "Didn't you wonder why they always say the same thing?"

Well I thought they were real people with scripted hot keys. .

Probably unloading his bots inventory on you with the frees.

But it isn't bad! Most of the people actually playing the game are decently nice. And in normal at least, most of thee high level assholes who come to pick on you cause they can't beat anyone their own level can be killed easy by my level 18, shuts them up

Well I'm not any nicer, but the comments above about the bots and loot are probably accurate. I think it's just less competitive after 8 (?) ladders in LoD...

I've noticed this too. I was doing some basic trades and he asked if I was new. "Yes" and he throws me some tearhaunches, alibaba, and frost burns.

There are also a lot of players who are willing to give fairly nice things for virtual crap. I traded an ith for homonc, 4 rals for a shako, and combinations of els, eths, elds for necro torch.

Yea i tend to hook up new players with stuff laying to waste on my mules. I'll go on santa trips to random games, always feels nice to help out new players, they keep the game going.

yup, I got free stuff when I started up again, and people would rush me through stuff for free. I remember back then people were jerks.

Then I jump back on WoW and realize where the children have moved to.

I just came back and I experienced the same things. I feel like the people that are left are people that enjoy the game for the gameplay, not for stroking their own egos.

It also helps that it becomes a cycle. My recent hammerdin got a free rush through NM, Hell, and then I had someone help me with ancients after I did some chaos runs. Now I also help people around too, and perhaps some of them go on to help others for free as well.
