axe or sword...

im a PvM Whirlwind barb and can't decide which route to go...I already have a BoTDz and a Grief pb but I want to get both weapons to be of teh same type (either pb or z) so I can only put points into 1 weapon mastery and have both weapons benefit...just wondering, which is better for a WW barb - 2 phase blades or 2 zerker axes? thx

It appears axes are better for the following reasons:
1. Lower requisites to weild
2. Beast is axe only and give Fanatacism - great for dual weilders.
3. Bezerker Axes have the best average damage - 47.5 for speed 0
the equivalent sword has only damage 45.
4. Your Gold Find Axe is the Runemaster (Speed 10 = 8 FPA) with 5 Lem Runes (75% GF each) = 375 GF

In favour of swords:
1.Phase Blades
Which are sooo fast (-30) and indestructible - no pesky repair costs. Greif Phase Blades are exellent - speed combined with that max damage stat.

2. Your GF Sword is Ali Baba Lem Lem (Speed 20 = 10FPA)
2.5 GF / Character Level + 150. At lvl 80 = 350 GF

Some examples to Reach the -34 WW Breakpoint:
Breath of the Dying - Ethereal Ettin Ax 49.5*1.5 Average damge
vs
Ethereal Colosus Blade 45*1.5 Average damge

Grief Bezerker Axe - requires 34+ IAS on rune word, but has much higher base damage than PB (33 Av)

If your playing PvM having two Ethereal weapons is a great advantage. Repairing rune words is outrageously expensive, you really dont have much choice but to use Ort runes and tp scrolls in the Horadric Cube, which is a pain.
