Normally, I don't care much for builds that attack only one target at a time due to lack of crowd control, but the Avenger is one that I can make an exception of. This is my favorite build that focuses on more than one kind of damage as Vengeance and Conviction make for a powerful combination. There isn't an enemy in single player campaign that is completely immune to this attack.

Due to rising mana costs, I'll be putting pumping Vengeance on hold until I get a constant supply of mana. For this reason, I instead pumped the individual resistance auras to increase the damage without increasing the mana cost. Once Conviction became available, I pumped it. At the same time, I also got the synergies needed for Redemption and got Meditation.

Once Conviction is maxed, next I'll focus on pumping Holy Shield together with putting more points into the individual resist auras. Vengeance will be the last skill maxed.

Here is the setup for my hireling and myself:

    Act 2 Nightmare Defensive

Andariel's Visage (increased skill levels and life leech)
Treachery (increased attack speed and chance to cast fade)
Insight Cryptic Axe (meditation aura increased mana recovery)

Helmet: Guillaume's Face (crushing blow and deadly strike)
Amulet: Highlord's Wrath (increased skill level and attack speed)
Armor: Guardian Angel (increased skill level, blocking, and maximum resistances)
Weapon: Breath of the Dying Berserker Axe (highest damage possible for vengeance as well as the other useful bonuses)
Swap Weapon: Call To Arms Flail (prebuff purposes)
    Shield: Stormshield (increased physical resistance)
Swap Shield: Spirit Monarch (increased skill levels of prebuffs)
Ring 1: Rare Dual Leech Ring
Ring 2: Raven Frost (cannot be frozen and dexterity bonus)
Belt: Verdungo's Hearty Coil (increased Vitality and physical damage resistance)
Boots: War Traveler (increased damage of Vengeance)
Gloves: Soul Drainer (dual leech and reduced defense of enemies stacks with Conviction)

    Griswold Variant

    Helmet: Griswold's Valor
Amulet: Highlord's Wrath (increased skill level and attack speed)
    Armor: Griswold's Heart
    Weapon: Griswold's Redemption
Swap Weapon: Call To Arms Flail (prebuff purposes)
    Shield: Griswold's Honor
Swap Shield: Spirit Monarch (increased skill levels of prebuffs)
Ring 1: Rare Dual Leech Ring
Ring 2: Raven Frost (cannot be frozen and dexterity bonus)
Belt: Verdungo's Hearty Coil (increased Vitality and physical damage resistance)
Boots: War Traveler (increased damage of Vengeance)
Gloves: Soul Drainer (dual leech and reduced defense of enemies stacks with Conviction)

The complete set adds more damage to Vengeance on the weapon.

The remaining points I have will be placed into the individual resistance auras to increase the damage of Vengeance. Once I equip my hireling with Insight, I'll need to respect to get rid of meditation since it will be redundant. Should I also get rid of redemption as well?

1 point wonders are great. As you level maybe they can be discarded. H
