    Authoring Videos / avi's

kso, I have a ton of mp3's, but since there's no feasible way (that I know of, feel free to lmk :p) to stream these online from a Youtube-like source, i figure the easiest way would be to set a static image as a background, and just make an avi or whatever out of it, upload to youtube.

    the problem! I don't know how :x
I've checked a couple of sites, and tried a bunch of proggies from TuCows + videohelp.com, but they dont work. Most common error message is invalid file format, most don't recognize jpgs as a valid input, even if I want a stillframe. Anyone experienced with this?

I don't see what your problem is, any video editing software worth the name should be able to do this. Are you sure it's a .jpg you are using?

And what the bloody hell has happened to your name?

Yeh. I've tried with multiple jpgs, just in case.
They were screenshots, pasted into photoshop, flattened and saved. should be np on that front.

the pod people got ahold of it.

So what do mp3 files have to do with animations/movies?

I can't upload plain mp3's to youtube. So, it needs to be in some video format.
The smallest form of which (size) would be a blank / static background image with music set to it, saved in video format. it's also easier to link to them, then having to make multiple angelfire accts and write out that annoyingly huge case-sensitive url each time.

Oh, it makes more sense now. Is there really no youtube-like site for sound files? You can also use stuff like rapidshare if you're just interested in letting people download music files.

Doesn't rapidshare have a strict download limit for free users too?

If the files are 2.5Mb or less you could use YTMND, but they'd hate you for doing it. Otherwise I'd shop around for an mp3 hoster, there must be one. I don't know anything about video creation.

    Kay! Update:
I found Virtualdub, and it looks pretty sweet. I imported a jpg ok, but it's only 1 frame long. Imported the song - only let me use .wav, no .mp3 though. so it's ~52mb with just an image and song, which seems really excessive to me. Apart from that, when I viewed it on my computer, it played fine. The image came up and held for 1 frame while the song played out. But when I uploaded to youtube, it only played 1 frame and then stopped. No sound because the song didnt even get a chance to start...
