Auradin for PVM?

Auradin for PVM?

Aside from prerequisites, I have put:

20 points in zeal
4 points in resist fire
20 points in conviction

I started a while ago based on an auradin guide for PvP: now that I've played the game for a while, I realize that diablo's PVP isn't really my thing.

The character is level 82, wearing the full Griswold set (outstanding equips from what I see, or at least the best I can afford,) and can hardly even deal damage to act 4 monsters.

Should I throw my twenty stockpiled points into holy shock, holy fire, or holy freeze? Should I stay a "pure" auradin?

I doubt I'll ever be able to afford any of the noticeably overpowered runeword equips, so, what should I do?

I guess the main point of this thread is one thing: Is a PVM, somewhat budget auradin possible? Hopefully one that can keep the Griswold set on, which I like quite a lot?

For that matter, what should be socketed into the 11 free slots Griswold presents me? I'm thinking of three perfect diamonds in the shield, but, aside from that, I am totally clueless. I just started playing Diablo 2 this month, but I'm finding that hell mode is far too difficult at level 82. Something tells me this should not be. I do under 1000 damage per hit at the moment, my HP is around 1k, and my defense with holy shield is about 6k.

i think you might have misunderstood the definition of "auradin" = a paladin who uses auras granted by gear, fully synergized, coupled with his personal conviction aura. as such, it's impossible to be an auradin and wear Griswold's set, since you can't make runewords in a set item. at it's most basic an auradin uses dual Dream runeword shields to get lvl30 holy shock aura, then maxes resist lightning (and sometimes salvation) as synergies to that aura, while wearing a lvl 25 conviction. often uses dragon armor and hand of justice phase blade for lvl 30 holy fire also.

with 20 points in zeal and 20 in conviction, you need to be doing super elemental damage from your items, b/c those two skills don't usually complement one another very well. i would recommend finding as many "+1-100 lightning damage" jewels as possible, or random other elemental damage like as high of fire damage as you can find, and put those in your griswold set. another possibility is making some of the budget runewords like Voice of Reason in a phase blade (Lem Ko El Eld) or Rift in a scepter (Hel Ko Lem Gul), those both have chances to cast elemental skills that would benefit from the speed of your zeal and the -resist of your conviction. but both preclude using the full griswold set.
