The paladin would be the opposite of a auraless paladin

but it would be bad because then there is no holy shield or main attack, maybe i should just stick with the combat skills and auras both, i'd never try a auraless pally

Maybe if you were an exTREMEly devoted ranger, and only used bow, with no weapon switch, you would do only auras. I guess you could super-synergize some stuff...

20 Blessed Aim
20 Holy Shock
20 Holy Freeze
20 Resist Light
20 Resist Cold

blessed aim for passive bonus, freeze from long range and then do some heavy-hitting with the holy shock? That's the best I could come up with, of course you'd have to be a lvl ~90 with excellent equipment and the patience of Job.

I have a pally with defiance as my main aura, but I also maxed holy shield and smite, and use smite as my main damage dealer. This is PvM only, and it was slow going until I got a high amount of crushing blow (at 95% now), but with the extra points going into lightning resists for the passive bonus, he does extremely well on hell baal runs. (currenly level 79)

I realize you said you did not want combat skills, but this is the closest I came to a defense only pally, however I do have a level 25 frost ranger I am working on, however he is sort of on hold while I do my melee sorceress.

I like this for my Fanatic/Shock Ranger:

20 Blessed Aim
20 Fanat
20 Holy Shock
20 Resist Light
20 Salvation (even though this isn't maxed on my Ranger yet.)

Still good Physical Damage and Elemental.

Even though mine is gear towards pvp so I have 2 Bows I used... Its still viable with just one.

If your willing to use rune words you could make a happy little firerdin using just aura's, 'defensive only' if you wished.

20 resist fire
20 salvation
20 conviction
1 prereqs

defensive only would be

20 resist fire
20 salvation
20 defiance, redemption, or (20 prayer and 20 cleansing)
1 prereqs

Both would require Hand of Justice to be used.

Exchange the fire for cold and use Doom for a freezadin.

The hardest part of these builds is getting to the level requirement for your runeword weapon.

If I were going to make an aura-only paladin, I'd make a ranger like this:

Gear:

Helm: Vamp Gaze - Yes, Vamp gaze. It's PvM, it gives DR. Awesome Helm.
Armor: cheap ias armor, I've always wanted a 120/45 nat's armor, because it's black, and looks sexy.
Belt: Razortail/String of Ears/Verdungos. It's your choice, Razortail can greatly increase your damage output though, by adding Piercing Attack to your arrows.
Amulet: Highlord's Wrath
Rings: Ravenfrost + Bul-Kathos Wedding Band
Boots: Gore Riders, probably.
Gloves: Draculs Grasp

Bow: Hand of Justice bow

Weapon Switch: Lacerator, Stormshield

Charms:
10x offensive auras charms, 1x annihilus, 9x 20life/2nd mod small charms (preferably resists)

Skills: Resist Cold, Holy Freeze, Resist Fire, Salvation, One point into Fanatacism, rest into holy shield (or if you don't like holy shield, defiance)

Immense fire damage, cold damage, and on your weapon switch, a lacerator with level 12-13ish fanatacism for throwing. This build should be able to take down any combo of monsters in the game, without sinking many, if any points into combat skills.

Could you make that intoa guide i think it would help others greatly!

A pure aura ranger would be more like:

20 holy freeze
20 resist cold
20 salvation

and tons of offensive aura grand charms along with +cold damage bows and other items to get super cold damage while in the mean time

20 blessed aim and 20 defiance for the passive bonus.
