The only thing we get from the patch notes is that there's a new recipe in Kanai's Cube, "Augment Ancient Item". But what exactly does it do? Does it change a stat depending on the type of flawless royal batch you use?

    Clarification requested.

It adds +5 Str/Dex/Int/Vit per legendary gem level, with the stat being determined by the normal gems. This is an additional affix; you can add more dex to an item which already has dex, and to an item without dex.

Repeated uses on the same item replace the existing augment, not add to it. (Using a lower level Lgem will actually reduce the augment.)

So if you use a 3x f.royal emerald and a Level 25 legendary gem on an item with +Dex, it will add +125 Dex (5*25 = 125) to the existing stat boost.

Whereas if you use 3x f.royal amethyst and a Level 5 legendary gem on an item with no vitality, you just get +25 vitality on it as an overwriteable extra specific to the recipe. Makes sense.

Yes. But the bonus is always listed separately, even if the item already has the same stat. It appears as: 125 Dexterity (Caldesan's Despair).

Also there are minimum levels for Lgems depending on the type of item you're augmenting, so you can never use a Lgem lower than level 30.

Ah, so that's what it meant by "Rank X gem for (type)", you need that level Legendary Gem rank in order to actually use it! THANKS SO MUCH for the clarification here! Now I can trash some useless regular gems, haha.
