Nevermind Microsoft educating your competitors! Let them! :D

I do think the US goes to far with airport-security though, sending back a dutch liner bound for Mexico because of two Muslims in it just isn't the way to go, IMO.

I've always wondered why some of the liberals in Washington and in the media don't nail the conservatives on certain issues. Maybe they enjoy the debate more than anything else and would rather focus on the biggest issues than anything else. I raelly noticed this back during the presidential debates. Kerry missed a chance to nail Bush on the environment, and I'm surprised there hasn't been more hubbub about that pre-Iraq war memo. Maybe no one wants to risk being another Dan Rather?

I think not, since both of these sorts of issues are extremely well documented, as opposed to the pre-Iraq war memo which bloggers are bubbling about now.

Some suspicions from the right- 'wingnut' side would probably be that the left wants a Big Brother Gov't and are commie-huggers anyways, so both issues aren't worth drawing attention to. In a very feeble way, they probably have a point - people who point out that both the DNC and GOP views are thoroughly corrupted by influence peddling probably are the most accurate.

So what you're saying is...maccool has been right all these years? And those issues may be documented, but that doesn't mean anyone is trying to make people care. Unless yo uare an avid news fan, you might not have been exposed to these stories, or at least, not enough to care about either issue.

I'm not sure about mac being right or anything that radical :) But there's far too much bullcrap reported as fact (Saddam not snuggling w/terrorists, the Diebold vote-counting machines being rigged) while real stories that have extensive evidence are simply ignored (conspiracy & fraud by the RIAA/MPAA, Christie Whitman's leaving the EPA, rampant disregard for border & port security, and so forth).

Fetish? What fetish? He's the latest anti-Christ, is all :-D

(I haven't had the time to make my old avatar's eyes glow red)

EDIT - Drunk, perfect example. Yes, the Patriot Act, and the DMCA for that matter, were made to resolve specific reasonable issues, yet the legislation is such utter garbage that awful miscarriages of justice result.

I wouldn't go that far. I'd hate to be right. But it's plain that there is no real difference in ideology between the two big political parties. We're just told to see wedge issues as some enormous chasm dividing the country (and of course, my view is correct and you are a giant suck). Hell, read the forums here. It works.

Keep the people from thinking and the government can do what it wants with no accountability. Panem et Circenses. It's hardly a new concept.

Edit: Here's what a pretty rad dude had to say about things 44 years ago.

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together." - Eisenhower's farewell address, 1961 full text here

Hey, jmervyn, it's all cool. This guy from Microsoft went to China and some people there told him that they don't want free speech. So he's comfortable with MS's decision to help stomp it out there.

I'm sure they've done similar due diligence stuff in Vietnam, too. :D

Well, what with the Vietnamese premier shaking hands with Shrub and everything, it looks like the GOP thinks that's just peachy...

Oh, and more fun for the metallic chapeau crowd,
Social Security has opened thousands of files since 9/11
The FBI asked the agency to share information to aid its terror inquiries

This is a greivous breach of the regulations I was familiar with in the Census Bureau; you're never supposed to abuse SSN's to "triangulate" individuals (SSN/Name/Address linkage). Wouldn't it be fun if the data gets 'lost'...

Well, to be honest, I'm being pretty lazy about it. Plus I'm not sure if I wanted to add a knight's helmet, or make the jaw move for hideous laughter as in the Python credits.

Why not do both? Sitting down for half an hour should allow you to do a reasonable job without going over-board.
