Attack rating for Conviction/Vengeance Paladin?

A few quick questions: I've looked at some Avenger builds and it seems that attack rating on these varies a good bit. I was wondering what I might shoot for with an Avenger Paladin as far as AR goes. I notice the Conviction lowers the monster's defense (86% at level 15), as well as resists, so this makes it more likely to hit. As far as game play goes, how much of a difference does this make? Does this make AR not such an issue for this Paladin? And do you guys know what numbers have worked well for others?

The second question is this: I know defense for my character doesn't defend against elemental damage that monsters deal on me. Is the reverse true, i.e., will the elemental part of a vengeance attack always hit the monster, even if the physical doesn't?

You need to hit with your attack for any of the dmg to carry over. Some weird exceptions come into play with some other skills but not vengeance or zeal.

As long as you have SOME AR (like 1K+...) then you need no more if using lvl 25 conviction. As long as your level is similar or higher than the opponent monster's level you will hit easily

Assuming you max vengeance for its 6/6/6 to each elemental damage then you'll get a healthy boost to your ar anyway so with conviction and a raven you shouldnt have very much trouble hitting things.

Thanks--that's a bit of a relief because I wanted to try this build, but the points/gear needed look pretty tight as it is.

Whats your plan ?
Noisemaker is right. Beyond that, basically, a vanilla Vengeance Paladin with an interesting back story. I haven't figured it all out yet. I don't have any amazing items sing I've only made one Pat/Mat and I don't have much time to do MF runs.

I started a Frost Zealot and it was fun in a wow-no-one-can-touch-me type of way, and it does make the game fun when it’s easier, but it makes for a difficult kind of fun when it’s more difficult. I think an Avenger build will be a littler tougher, so I figured I’d give it a try.

I think Spirit or even Rhyme, if you don't have any other source of CBF, will be better than Tiamat's. You will get more resists, as well as other great mods. An average of 200 (or less?) elemental damage won't matter very much to an Avenger.
