    Atheism vs. Agnosticism

Do you think an atheist has every bit as much of an unprovable foundation for his or her belief system as a religious person?

If the foundation for unprovable belief systems is 'faith', then yes.

I have complete faith in the lack of any body or being that has governance over me. Unprovable, and purely my own belief, or faith.

Of course. Atheists must take it on faith that there is no god, which is unprovable. I would argue that God as he exists in the view of most major religions does provably not exist, but that's a point for another thread.

Now, with that question answered, what drives your belief in nothing?

Most religions have a holy book of some kind purported to have passed down the word of "God" through the generations. I'm curious as to what Atheists use as evidence to conclude there is no God.

Atheism does not need proof. It is a LACK of belief. One does not need to prove inexistence.

It's like demanding proof that ghosts and werewolves don't exist.

Do a search on what Dr. Jung said about it.

Personally I think you can only have faith in yourself.
Having faith in God is having faith that you can know if God exists or not.

It's equally hard to prove both. That miracle may be some wacky unknown statistically unlikely physical process, or it may be god.

You can't just lie back in your belief that something doesn't exist while blasting others for being comfortable in their faith without proof.

You don't have to believe in the ocean, but if you step in, you still get wet.

Atheism needs just as much proof as any religious belief.

I believe that most, if not all, valid arguments against the existence of God disprove the existence of a personal God. A non-personal, detached God is a hard thing to disprove.

Atheists are not religious. They don’t believe in god or any other superstitions. As a atheist I don’t have a need to believe. I think it’s quite simple.

Agnosticism is lack of belief. Atheism is belief there is no God.

That makes no sense. What "belief system" does Atheism have? What dogma? What rituals? None.

The only thing Atheists have in common is the lack of belief in a deity.

There's no such thing as "belief that something doesn't exist". Lack of belief is not a belief itself. The burden of proof is always on those who believe something exists.

Atheists don't believe there is a God because there is no proof to its existence. Stepping into the ocean is a good proof that the ocean exists. Those are two completely different matters.

    *Points at buttershug's post.

Blade, you're an agnostic, not an atheist.

Is zero a number? Is it a matter of belief? If zero was God, an athiest wouldn't believe in it's existance. It takes a lot of faith to believe that zero doesn't exist. Without zero, the world we know wouldn't work. That takes a lot of faith. Same as no belief in God.

I don't believe you have very good spelling for a man of your age. I blame the American school system.

Zero is a number, it is not a matter of belief but rather a simple mathematical fact.

And you have completely lost me with "If zero was God..." and what followed.

An Atheist doesn't believe in God, he belives in science. Which is just a load of ****. Science is so filled up with nonsense, it is absurd someone believe it.
