    Art = getting you fired.

    A Texas teacher (5th grade) was fired after taking her class to the Dallas Museum of Art. It turns out one of them walked past a nude exhibit, and told their parents, who told the school system, who fired the teacher. Linkage:

    That is beyond stupid... The US is beyond prudish, and the teacher didn't deserve to get fired for that.

    I'm glad my country was only founded by convicts, and not Puritans.

    Things like this led to me no longer wanting to be a teacher (in Texas or anywhere else).

    And they wonder why Americans are so stupid. It's like our idiocy is some sick form of incest where we listen to our idiots and let them create increasingly bigger idiots.

    Yes, I realize there aren't really any forms of incest that aren't sick.

    wow, I remember watching videos in high school science classes(bio sections) that had nudity in them...then again us canadians tend to be a little more open-minded and liberal

    I was watching a video in bio the other day where (without warning) there was a full on display of a woman giving birth. Half the class was bored out of their minds before that, but let me tell you, we were awake after that little segment.

    As for the teacher getting fired for that. It's just bloody ridiculous, since it wasn't the teacher's fault at all. I guess that's why they make us sign those safety forms before any field trip, but now they have to include stuff like "may see some nakedness".

    LMAO, its THAT video. Oh man I remember that day, it was like 5 years ago. That scene came out of nowhere, but as you say, after that no one was bored.

    Did your video also have some sort of thermal goggle-ish view of a man and his, uh. :starry:

    Hey look, it didn't take long for every non-American to take a story disgusting even to us and use it to make blanket statements about the whole country.

    My favorite part of Germany was the spas. All nude. Yeah, mostly 50yo fogies, but the occasional hot 20yo made it all worth it. Not to mention softcore porn every night at 10pm (sexy sports or something like that) and hardcore on the weekends.

    Americans have violence; Europeans have sex. Why can't we all just get along and have both?

    Two things Americans need to learn about nudity:
    1. Topless != nude.
    2. Nudity != sex.

    It's a mind-blower. I've seen either it or a similiar vid as well years back.

    As to the OT, I'm wondering what was the reason for firing in the first place? I know this sounds kind of awkward, but as Johnny has enlightened you, up here in the degenerated North, unless the employment is for predetermined time, there actually has to be grounds for the lay-off or discontinuation of work relationship. What did they write on paper? "Sexual harassment"?

    Granted, the year I thought I showed the film The Name of the Rose to the group of high-schoolers as an opportunity to try to find some aspects of the description of medieval social structure and the cloister-system, and I warned paused the video and warned them beforehand that there is a sex scene - albeit by today's standards rather little-showing - and that those offended by seeing such might take their leave for a while.

    No-one left, but at least I covered my back. Discretion.

    "Oes noes! I'm outside the borders of America! I better move in as soon as possible so I can become a better person."

    Stout, I usually like your comments - they put things to perspective - but the use of the phrase "every non-American" gave youre a post a tone according to which we're all against you. I, after personally having - granted, only occasionally - put my person on the line in the office of a teacher, trying to alleviate some groundless hate towards your country, and getting this as a rewards, personally find this rather repugnant.

    We're not all against you. Whether you want it or not.

    I don't remember exactly. I was one of those people who was really bored throughout the movie and wasn't even taking anything about the video in. And I was too shocked to look up at the screen after the, uh, yeah.

    Well mine wasn't supposed to be serious (frankly I wouldn't put it past some Australian schools to do the same - out of incompetence rather than prudishness - and I realize that some parts of America are very conservative while others are little different to my own country), and aren't Cannon Fodder and ModeratelyConfused American?

    The part of this story that made no sense to me was that they are 5th graders, and that by then most schools have done some form of sex ed. Hence, they had seen this in school before. But, I'm not sure of Texas' policies on this, so I will ask Bort what happens down there.

    There are no real policies pertaining to crap like this. This whole thing is a product of political correctness gone mad, and a school district caving in to a kook to avoid bad publicity and trying to not offend anyone.

    Our schools always made us get permission slips from our parents for excursions so their arses were always covered, why didn't they just do that?

    See Bortaz's response on this. I wouldn't be surprised if they did send out permission slips first (that was standard procedure when I was in school, anyway,) but once the complaint started getting publicity, the legality probably didn't matter from the school's point of view. Regardless of the strength of their case, the easiest and quickest way out of the spotlight was to cave, which is what they did.
