I have been running him in hell a lot lately with my 87 Necro and at least my friend's 86 sorc. (often 2 others of similar level). I have not been impressed with his drops. Is this a common sentiment?

He's mainly farmed for eestruction keys which are needed to get torches. Apart from that, he's not really a good MF target, even though he's one of the few targets which can drop any item in the game, including so-called Baal charms (which can get any affix possible for charms).

BTW, he's the only human which gets killed in the game... apart from your characters and mercs :)

If you want some hard to find items because you have enough commun items, maybe he is worth it. (Keys can be a bonus too).

Otherwise, don't run him.

Yeah, you pretty much go after him for the destruction keys that he sometimes has in his pocket. Although I have had a CoA drop from him, but that was just plain luck.

I like running him for one main reason: Keys seem to drop from him at a slightly higher rate than the other 2 spots. And on top of that, Dest keys can often be traded 2 to 1 for other keys.

I always seem to end up with way more Dest keys than the others, and hence I can get a stellar deal by trading a couple of them off.

I like him. I did 5 runs today and got a GC and 3 D Keys. Of course it took me about 30 arcane runs just to get 1 stupid H key.

don't know if you counted them as mercs but the random barbarians running around in the siege of harrogath die pretty often
