Africa isn't exactly a 1st world country. Until all other factors can be ruled out (like coming in contact with contaminated blood, violent rape (there has to be at the least microtearing for the virus to get into the blood stream, which is why sex isn't 100% transmitting) and any number of factors, I'm not going to believe the idea that someone living in Africa wouldn't have caught AIDS had they just avoided consentual heterosexual contact.

So outside of 3rd world countries, is heterosexual sex still the leading cause of AIDS? Because it isn't in America.

If you leave out the parts of the numbers which aren't to your liking, you can produce any result you like. Perhaps the US is skewing the numbers ? According to the link I provided, the US has a higher AIDS rate than most of Europe :scratchchin:

As said, the reason for homosexuals being represented to a greater extent than others is that they often have more fluctuation with their relationships. That's not because they are homosexual, but because they are men. Heterosexual men just cannot get away that easily with that stone age attitude. The willingness of their female partners to switch relations as often as their underwear is typically a bit lower. If that's the explanation, the consequence shouldn't be condemning homosexuality, but demanding more discipline with respect to AIDS prevention, just as with (Pandora box !) weapons.

Back to the topic this evolved from, whether homosexuals should be tolerated, my personal opinion is yes (which is already OT with respect to the original point of this thread). You might not accept that for yourself, but that doesn't mean that you can enforce your own opinion onto others, else you will have to move to a country where there are no homosexuals by decree, e.g. Iran :whistling:

If I exposed myself to a greater AIDS risk, that would be my personal decision (note the conjunctive ). I don't think that it's allowed in for adults to have sex with underaged people, no matter if homosexual or not, but when grown up men are among themselves, they are free to decide about their sexual habits, contract any disease they like, jump off a cliff or whatever, as long as they don't enforce it on others.

No, it just has to come in contact with a semi-permeable mucous membrane. The reason sex isn't 100% transmitting is because nothing is. However, another big reason is because men in heterosexual sex have a much lower risk of contracting any sexually transmitted disease because of the way the penis is built. Women stand a much higher rate because all of that stuff is shot into them where it awaits cleanup by the body (moving it into the, guess what - bloodstream). In addition to that, the "microtearing" that you mentioned happens quite often during regular sex. This is because friction causes wear and nothing is a perfect lubricant.

I believe everyone is "predispositioned" for different things. (For example, kelptomaniacs, nymphomaniacs, pyromaniacs, ect.) I don't, however, believe this gives them an excuse to participate in whatever they want just because they "feel" like doing it.

AIDS is most easily transmitted through *** sex - less so through hetero-sex. AIDS has spread through needle use, blood transfusions and *** sex - almost exclusively. There are exceptions, but there have been very few substantiated cases of transmitting to someone through 100% straight sex. (i.e. sharing a needle and having sex doesn't count.) *edit* I forgot birth - that's one way to pass the disease.

But apparently it's "unrealistic" for me to believe other people have even half the self control I do.

I refuse to believe I've got some sort of superior mind over body control, but somehow I resisted the urge to do drugs or have sex outside of marriage. So either everyone else is inferior to me, or they just don't want to bother trying. Which is less insulting?

TBH we should just put contraceptives in the water and let people go nuts. If someone wanted a child, they could just submit proof of employment, pass a genetics test for serious diseases, and be given the antidote. Perfect solution, right?
