Are Jewels worth holding onto if you're not going to use them?

Can they be improved in the Horadric Cube?

I'm seriously running out of room, and I don't like using a Mule. Are these things worth holding onto?

If you want to craft, you'll need some jewels to use in the recipes. It's not imperitive that you save them all, but you might as well :p

I'd say no, sell them. If you do want to craft, jewels fall fairly frequently so you can always pickup up another, and the quality of the jewel does nothing for the crafting recipe.

Some jewel sell, mostly involved good stats for low level duel people, meaning the requirement has to be under lv 30. I sold two +15 max jewel recently for 30 pgems worth of currency. There's a thread laying around here somewhere explain which jewel to keep, not all of them that listed have great demand though. Worst case scenario, sell them in bulk, 30-40 for a Pul. If you run out of space, make a mule to hold them for you.

If you're playing on b.net, I would highly recommend having a "junk jewel" mule. People buy them in bulk for currency, and you find jewels quite frequently. It's not a bad way of getting some extra runes or keys to trade/use.

I'm playing offline, and I don't like mules (see initial post ;)).

Crafting uses Horadric cube recipes to make new items, and in each recipe, one jewel is required. This page on Arreat Summit tells you all you need to know:

http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/crafteditems.shtml

You can follow the four links at the bottom to see the various recipes to see if there's any you might be interested in.

If you're not going to use the jewels for crafting, use them for socketing in general, or trade them, I can't think of a reason to keep 'em.

I've seen them being considered currency in trading so I do.
