    AR for Zealer

What is the Attack rating suppose to be for a zealer, well even more curious, what should it be for a 1pt Smiter build ??? mines only like 7,145 ... ?? thanks

Mine was definitely lower without Angelics... with Angelics it was 9000 IIRC. That's why I like to use an ITD weapon like Grief ;)

Heaven's light and Redeemer are okay with -defense, and so is Astreon's with its gigantic 210% Attack rating bonus.

    Re: AR for Zealer

Looking at the arreat summit, at least on a selection of top-end hell mobs I looked at, showed them at ~2700 defense. That means that before multiplying the chance to hit by the level formula (of (clvl+mlvl)/(2*mlvl) iirc) you will have:

2700 AR (1X (equal to) mob DR): 50%
    4050 AR (1.5X mob DR): 60%
    5400 AR (2X): 2/3 (66.6%)
    8100 AR (3X): 75%
    10800 AR (4X): 80%
    24300 AR (9X): 90%
in general for aX AR you have a/(a+1) chance to hit using the AR/(AR+DR) portion of the chance to hit formula (which is the only portion that is under your control, the other is just a multiplier based on your and the monster's level).

If you find difference defense values (for other mobs or if for some reason the 2700 defense value isn't representative of the hell mobs) you can still get it by using the "1.5X" etc.

How much AR to shoot for really depends on the sacrifices you have to make to get it, since increasing hit chance while losing damage elsewhere may or may not be counter-productive depending on how much you lose VS how much you gain.

Going from 5400 AR to 8100 will increase damage/sec by 0.77/(2/3)=1.155 or 15.5% damage/sec increase. Going from 10800 to 24300 is only 12.5% increase. Again where it stops being worth it is depending on what sacrifices you have to make for it, but in general AR gives decent returns up to the 10k area, give or take a thousand or 2 ;)

Angelic ring+amu is an interesting example as they can give several thousands of AR (after multiplying by the % AR bonus from skills) but at the heavy cost of having a ring+amu with practically no other stats. While it will most likely be a damage/second increase it may or may not be worth the leech/resist loss. Compared to charms, though, you could probably get the resistances more easily from charms to make up for the ring/amu loss

Running an ITD weapon makes it so you care a lot less about AR against most mobs, but against the ones that are actually tough you're going to have trouble with rather low chance to hit (and thus low and unreliable life leech).

You can just smite bosses, using a Life Tap charges wand. With a small amount of crushing blow, it will be much faster than relying on the oh so unreliable AR-dependant Zeal.

    What?!? OVER 9000???

    (Sorry, just couldn't resist).

Angelics are insane amount of AR. Remember it gets multiplied by all % AR modifiers.

In pvp, if you can estimate the defense rating of your opponent you can easily get the returns additional AR would have in a simlar manner.
For a fanat/holy shield type of pally, though, as said you can just smite stuff that ITD doesn't work on.
