April 15th ... A day that lives in infamy

Once again ... It's tax time!

So ... send in your completed IRS return today or --> be like me, and procrastinate by filing Form 4868 (Automatic Extension) :p

Form 1040 can kiss my grits!

I procrastinated just like always...figured since I still owe the government money (blasted job monkeys didn't withhold any federal tax!) that I'd make them sweat. First time I had to file a 1040 instead of a 1040A and it was a very trying experience (not hard, mind you, just more difficult than I was expecting).

Ours isn't until April 31... but it looks like I'll be shelling out about $1200. Shatty.

I owed $150, but since I hadn't paid taxes on any of the money I make as an independent designer, I expected that. And I had saved out about $950 for taxes, so it's like I got $800 back.

Heh. I did my taxes two days ago, using telefile so that was relatively quick and easy. 30 minutes about. Woot $850 back too, hmm $850 worth of records or $800 worth of records and $50 spending money that i'd use to buy records anyway...hmm

Actually I might just pick up a new guitar...

4868 form... man, am I lazy...

I don't know why I procrastinate ever damn year, but I do. This year I filed the extension to avoid doing it for a few extra weeks. I am nearly certain I'm going to owe a little, so I have no real motivation to get them done right now.

Either way, in a few weeks I'll drag myself around to doing it. At least I got my temporary "get out of jail free" card with the extension form which is sitting in a mailbox outside my office as I type this.

If you file the 4868 form Lunar, be sure and send in enough cash to cover your tax liability for 2004. Even though that form gives you an auto-extension for filing, your liabilities are still subject to potential interest and penalties from the IRS.

Doh! I didn't even calculate fully... I stated that it would be "a wash" (meaning I wouldn't owe).

Can I claim good faith? ;) I mean... I paid a butt-load of taxes this last year... must the squeeze more blood from this turnip? :D

I owed 20 bucks to my state and 10 to my county.

    Being a poor student rocks.

It's 10pm. I just got my extension in. Had to go to three post offices. Bastard US mail was frugal with their hours this year.

I got my return auto deposited on February 7th, nearly $6k thanks to a new tax law allowing you to claim sales tax in place of Property/State tax this year. woohoo for all those many tax laws. Still think a flat 10-15% tax would be better though.

    Cryptologist needed for tax code

I can't even begin to make heads or tails out of the US tax code...I had to ask my parents for help and even they were a little confused about this year's forms (and they've been filing 1040s for 25 years now!) I can't wait to be a licensed psychiatrist because then I get to declare the psychopaths who devised this blasted code mentally incompetant. Or, failing that, I'll have enough money to pay someone to do my taxes for me.
