Anywho rant

What's up with the word anywho? I've seen a lot of people writing it. At first I thought it was just a typing error, but then I saw that a lot of people write it like that. I assume they mean anyhow, but why don't they just write anyhow then? Anywho doesn't even exist according to the dictionary!
AnyHOW, this is just something that has been bugging me for quite some time, so could someone please be so kind to explain to me why people write it like that?

It was used in a Seinfeld Show, and a couple other shows I believe it was also used in a British show called Young Ones, I no longer know the situations but it was an “appropriate†response. Then I really took notice when my wife and her gay brother would use it to each other all the time and now I say it but rarely type it.

While we're on the topic of word rants, it's spelled r-I-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s. I don't know how many times I've seen "rediculous" but more than I can count. It seems to be one of the most common mistakes. Usually I'm not that anal, but I've seen this mispelled close to 50 times in the past year or so.

Don't be rediculous!

In all seriousness, it bugs the hell out of me too, so I'm jumpin on the Jonesy bandwagon on this one.

PS--the US is airing live at 11:30 on Telemundo tonight if you get it. Or at least it is in my area. Thank god for not having to watch it at 1 am.

Really? I'll have to see if I get Telemundo. Announcing in Spanish though, eh? Hmm, I'll need to brush up.

Nonsense, it's easy to follow. When it starts to reach a crescendo, something exciting happens. When it slips to monotone, someone's slowing the game down in the midfield and taking their time. The more detailed stuff you'll be able to get as well, but it's harder to verbalize.

Strange, I guess I've used it but misspelled it as "anyhoo", as a play on grammar. Unless that's not the same word? Synonymous with anyhow, but with the connotation of being the final word?

Don't misunderestimate the ways we can garble language around these parts.

Not nearly as common as misspelled. :p

Telemundo, you say? Muy Bueno! 2330? Muy whatever the opposite of bueno is. I thought the game was at 2030 Panama time.

Anywho is a completely figureoutable word
I would have said "cromulent" instead, but to each his own.

I think the word "anywho" annoys me because I look upon it as a corruption of the English language. Likewise, "ain't" and "1337speak" irk me as well. That's not to say that I don't use "ain't"...I just feel dirty saying it.

Yeah, but that was a typo by me. I've been typing all morning writing 3300 words of worthless history crap. I was the spelling bee champ at my school in 5th grade, I know how to spell misspelled. :)

Aye, it's delayed. Bah. I wonder if it's on Pay Per View.

Anywho isn't really used in speaking around here, I picked up from a friend who writes like crazy(he's really good too, got published in a poetry book every year since 5th grade) and he has a bunch of expressions most people don't use. My favorite is "whatnot".

I use anywho sometimes in speak, dont think i type it much though.
And the wonderful world of google told me that the word was first used in 1938 on radio, so its not a really modern word.

Anywho is not as bad as peeps.

Peeps are delicious, but after about the third one they weigh too heavily on my stomach. I don't know if all varieties are covered with glitter-like sugar.
