Anyone else worried about the SIMPLICITY of the graphics?

no. no one else is worried about the SIMPLICITY of the graphics.
I see why you are worried. However, we should have faith, blizzard will get it good enough by the time they release it. It won't be super duper crazy, yet it will be more then good enough.

I agree... graphics are way too simple. Even Titan Quests' modeling, and I repeat, only the modeling is more complex. To think that this game is supposed to be released in, what? over 1 year... there won't be a computer on earth that can't run it. Bashiok also mentioned that they don't have anti-aliasing... how stupid is it not to include anti-aliasing option? Even with the physics and everything, it's not an excuse.

P.S. With all this... you still can't really compare it to Diablo 2, because that was a 2 dimensional game... so there weren't any 'models' or 'texture', there were only sprites - simple flat pictures pasted on a virtual environment. That's how they made games back in the day and managed to make them look real enough to play.

I have a pic of an overlord at the early stages of development in SC2 and a pic next to it much latter on, and there is a huge difference in its appearance. I don't think there is really anything to worry about at this stage.

Wait wait what?! D3 is not going to have an anti-aliasing option (or "multisampling" as they call in in WoW)?! Wtf? Since when was this mentioned?

Also, I'm sure you guys are right. Right now they are obviously trying to get the mechanics of the game working, which very likely means that they will be polishing up the graphics later on. Thanks for putting me back into perspective.

Actually, Bashiok said they haven't implemented AA in the demos so far, i.e. it is on the to-do list.

Sigh...

Diablo 3 is going to be using DirectX. Almost any DirectX game can have antialiasing via forcing it in your respective control panels.

So even if they weren't going to implement AA, which they probably are, stop having a cow over it.

I entirely agree with the OP, but I'm certain that between now and release we'll see everything get another iteration or two of detail and texture work. It's just the way Blizzard works.

Someone laughed at asking for the detail found in DII. It's pixel art, but have you ever actually stopped to take a look at it? It's some really amazing work, and the variety in doodads, architecture, and little details is crazy. Altars with some severed body parts scattered around, an alcove in a wall decorated with candles and blood and shackles, a harem littered with corpses, blood-soaked pillows and ransacked beds.

One downside of polygons is that having an environment with that kind of absurd detail just isn't as possible as it is with pixel art. I think for DIII, Blizzard will be focusing instead on larger, more impressive set pieces to draw our eye. It's a bit of a trade-off.
