Anyone else here solo on the realms?

And I mean, even without necessarily doing private group runs? Just.. make a private game and do every act, every quest alone like in SP? Seems kind of defeatist to do on b.net but by the same token, I think having the option to trade or invite friends along is pretty nice, while being able to just play alone.

Anyone else do this? And I mean, primarily just quest/level by themselves on b.net? I'm sure a lot of people do, but majority seems to be priv groups or pubbies, as opposed to just solo.

I'm planning on doing it with my Spearazon. Wanna see if I can't get her through Hell mostly alone (unless some friends pop by and wanna join in).

Yup .... that's pretty much me.
I play on b.net primarily because if I get in a jam (ie. my Assasin couldn't kill Diablo in normal) I could make a public game for help.

However, I just found out my next door neighbor plays, so I may have a pal to play along with. :buddies:
That is ... if I can ever get over my greedy need to pick up every single item that drops.

The only time I play in a group is to rush/help out a friend or lvl in Baal runs. I solo the rest of the time....Gotta play on Bnet to trade tho  Thats half the fun

Agreed. I play Solo most of the time and to do MF Runs. What good would those MF Runs do me if I couldn't trade the stuff.

I don't think I have any real intention yet of using her to MF, but after rerushing my barb it's getting kind of boring. I think, more than likely, once I get her Lycander's Flank, I might just not even really look for anything to xfer to her (unless I happen to get an eth war pike & BotD runes but yeah RIGHT  ).

On top of that, I'm not using any guides or standard builds or anything (hey she is a spearazon after all, try finding a concise guide for one of those hehe).

It's gonna be a long, hard road (out of Hell, haha) but.. I think the satisfaction of being able to actually do it will make it worth it. :)

I really haven't played solo much since 1.10 went live. I've become far too spoiled by the fun that only group-play can provide. It's nice to have friends to play, mule and chat with. Back in the 1.08-1.09 days I used to solo quite a lot -- it bores me now though.

On the other hand, the games I play in with friends are almost always private unless we're doing those awful baal runs. This morning, a friend calculated that it will take about 700 runs for me to reach level 96. I guess I'll be spending the rest of my natural life in the pubbies, argh! :cheesy:

When I first started my other spearazon, I would go into pubbie games expecting people to be like "LOL NOOB! Spearazons suck!!" but to my surprise, a lot of people thought it was really cool, which kind of pushed me to continue on. After that though, pubbie games go back to being your usual pubbie games and seeing as I have this disposition towards people in general anyway.. I think playing alone is the way to go for me, hehe.

I also play almost exclusively solo on the realms. It started when I got tired of running out of room in SP (this was long before ATMA); i stayed for the trading.

I also very much enjoy being able to make a character and solo hell with him/her. It is extremely satisfying.

Every once in a while I will join a public game titled "Kill Diablo" or some other help quest. I am repeatedly reminded why I prefer to play solo. (edit, that is a bit of an exaggeration. I have some very satisfying help games, but I always get so angry when someone asks for your help, but is 100% useless to do anything, or offensive, or immature, or whatever.)

I solo mf a lot and if i'm building a character i rush with about 4-5 friends who play. Half of the people i play with i know in real life and half i have met on the realms and are mature/nice/etc...

I rarely play in public games or trade on bnet channels as the level of maturity is pretty low amongst the average person on the realms. I've had good luck with people on these boards though :)

I play solo in the realms about 90% of the time. My reasons are about the same as those listed above.

Perhaps the main reason is when, after finding an Aldurs helm, I went into a game with a lvl 35ish druid. It was my intention to just give him the helm, I didn't need it. I opened up the trade window, put the helm in and hit the green check mark. The druid took it, and immediately left the game. Then he proceeds to sent me green messages saying "you ****ing n00b, I just got your helmet" and the like.

I was going to give it to him, I guess he didn't get that part of it.

Anyway, that turned me off playing in public games. you can find some cool people to play with on this forum I have found though.

EDIT: Starseed, what realm and stuff are you on? I might have a Lycander's Flank for you.

Aye, the same for me. The exception being a difficult act boss.

Most of the folks in pubbies don't have a clue on teamwork. It really pisses me off when at the throne, I will have a couple of melee chars standing behind me, when I am playing a ranged char. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot???

Or the idiot, in the CS running around breaking all the seals

    *sigh*

Due to the state of which Battlenet is in, I usually play solo as well. Very rarely I search a game with more people, and then only if it says "All quests". I like to play my character through all area's and all quests, and if you don't solo often that is impossible. Most players are too impatient to play through the game.

Sometimes I create a non-passworded game with the name of the act I'm in and then "no rush". But that still doesn't stop low-level players to join and whine for the act boss... it is really tiresome. And yeah, I agree with Nastie_Bowie, people just don't know how to teamplay. Mostly, when you are partying, it is just a bunch of individual players doing their thing, snatching each other's drops away, flaming each other for the builds they have made and generally being a huge pain in the buttocks. And then I haven't even mentioned the immaturity described in upper posts yet, but I am sure you all know what I mean... I don't even trade anymore, apart from people I met on the forums.

So yeah, I mostly solo. We should organize a forum get-together on Europe realm again though. Is there still a dii.net-channel over there?

For pretty much all the reasons listed above, I tend to play solo. I'll join other games when I'm dragging a bit or else need to level again quickly for some reason. Otherwise, I like taking my time and doing the quests. Besides, I love nec's and amazons and when I play MP games, I tend to miss most of the good drops cause I'm a furter away than the melee folks who grab the stuff as it falls.

Yeah, I know how that can be. Actually kind of the reason I decided to solo my 'zon. I made a game, to trade my Homunculus for Lycanders and some necro came in and asked if it was a "good version". I show him and he said it was good, but he needed better. I just got kind of fed up with this warped version of pretentiousness I see so much, heh.

    BTW, I'm on US-East Ladder. :)

Yes, I played the majority of the game by myself when creating my necro. A friend helped a little bit in nightmare, and in Hell my game wasn't passworded and some paladin I didn't know joined so we did a couple acts together. Other than that, I do most of it all alone.

I've played solo since 1.03 on the realms.

Occasionally play with up to 3 other friends, but rarely more than one at a time.

I'm not sure it's defeatist on the realms - my lvl 92 druid (Talisyn) is pos 181 on European Ladder last time I looked.

He got to pos 161 but had a lag death on exiting the game :(

He can mf (355% on druid, 166% on merc) and get decent xp w/o relying on public games or trading for items. The 3 friends I play with get all the items I find and can't use.

Rather than defeatist, it can be more of a challenge and you certainly don't have item grabbers, rushers, "give itams", PKs, and general idiots getting in the way of your adventures or your strategies

Being able to do hell diablo and baal solo in about 40 minutes can be quite satisfying. Getting your body back after a death requires more skill when solo too.

Playing solo in a public game at lower lvls is fun too - one boss in act 1 at lvl 1 in 8 player game = a lvl :). And you can get to lvl 40 in a day w/o any help except for a few previously muled items.
