Anybody thinking about a shapeshifter?

ive always wanted to play a shapeshifter.. and if anyone can pull off a good one. it would be blizzard

one example. if you ever seen the show ''Teen Titans''.. an example of what im looking for is something like beast boy.

i no ur thinking that this would be hard to fit in the lore.. but i really think blizzard could pull it off

Hard to fit into lore?

Uhh, have you played Diablo 2? Druids?

I personally think Shapeshifting is pretty awesome, but I'd like it if the shapeshifts actually wore items. I wonder how female and male shapeshifts will differ if such exists..*shudder*

Re: Anybody thinking about a shapeshifter?

So...whats the Shapeshifting skill tree?

What defines a shape shifter then? I believe shapeshifting is having the ability to transform into something else, which is what a Druid is capable of, therefore making him a shapeshifter, no?

You haven't answered any of my questions, and I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to post on this forum regardless, not like I've been rude or anything. I posted information linked to the topic too, if you read what I've said.

What are you trying to say exactly, other than what you've already posted?

Re: Anybody thinking about a shapeshifter?

Druid was able to become a shapeshifter, but i wouldn't consider him a pure shapeshifter.

I think a shapeshifter class would specialize in shapeshifting, no matter what tree you invest in. In regards to D3, I doubt blizzard will go the same route as the druid (wearbear and wolf), but maybe a shifter that transforms into demons?

Druids were shapeshifters.

I think shapeshifting is kind of limited in a gaming environment unless it's like a Plasticman or Mr. Fantastic capacity. As the number of forms increase the hassles of creating a system of skills for them increases. I think ultimately you would end up with a handful of mini characters with limited skills. And the Plasticman/Mr. Fantastic way about it, with rubber arms swinging around and kicking people from a distance I don't think would look right in a Diablo game.

That's a concept that didn't exist in D2. Each tree was a different theme, so there could be no chance for that to happen.

It's perfectly adequate to call the Druid a shapeshifter, as anyone who played one would no doubt agree. However, I think the point of the OP is a class designed around the concept of shapeshifting, in contrast to the Druid whose design concept was that of a nature dweller.

But personally I have no opinion on a shapeshifter class (as I don't have on the many other new class ideas that just breed faster than rabbits on these forums). Frankly I find the whole idea of discussing 100% conjectural classes incredibly boring. But never mind me.

I've never understood why people have held onto the idea that the shapeshifter needs to shift into something and stay there.

My "solution" to the shapeshifter is that you would have a guy who is very shamanistic and druidic, (Think Druid and you're close) but any time he uses an ability he shifts quickly to an animal form to do it and then shifts back immediately. So it's basically he is a dude, then he is a huge bear who crushes the enemies in front of him, and then he is a dude again.

The talent trees could be very simple. Brute Animals (Bears, Rhinos, Turtles), Damage Animals (Wolves, Lions, Dragon), Miscellanious animals. (Owls, Eagles, Crows.)

Conceptually he's basically a melee fighter, but instead of his abilities being "He jumps in the air and comes down crushing the skulls of his enemies." it's "He turns into a bear and crushes the skulls of his enemies."

What the hell was the Druid then? Was he bored?

Re: Anybody thinking about a shapeshifter?

Shape shifting is fine I guess, but since they have already stated they are not bringing back any of the old characters except the barbarian, I doubt we will be seeing one.

I cannot think of anything besides the Druid that would fit the lore properly and respect its limitations.

Also, shape-shifting just to be in a different form is a bit pointless. The form ought to give you both certain strengths and weaknesses to make it game worthy and situation specific. In that case, switching in and out of a form just to make a single attack negates the weaknesses and, if you only want to be in it for that split second, that the strength is only good for a very specific, split-second situation.

I think it better to have a limited number of forms, each with their specific situation, each allowing you to cast your full range of "human-form" spells, each buffing and detracting from the "human-form" spells in certain ways, each offering you new "form-specific" spells and each allowing tansformation into another form without having to go through the human form. But there ought to be some limitation to this transformation, either cost or cool-down or something else.

This is how I envision a shape shifter as well. It's very fluid, instantaneous and practically pure melee.

IAS and/or FCR would make that look kinda silly, no? You could make it really slow and awkward to use to prevent that, but that would ruin the class.
Shapeshifting for one attack probably doesn't work that well, unless they cut down a lot on IAS/FCR (which wouldn't be a bad thing per se, mind you).

It would also just be a flashy (or rather, furry) way of slamming down a hammer with such force that it'd knock monsters back. And possibly slower, too.

Re: Anybody thinking about a shapeshifter?

Yes, but think of an entire class based on melee attacks.

Sweep attacks to hit monsters in your forward 180 degree arc,
Stun Attacks, Blinding Attacks, Confusion Attacks, etc. A slow moving, but extra defense transform to get close to archers. A fast moving but minimal damage transform to get out of swarms.

Stuff like that. You could make it really neat.

That sounds more like a druid from WoW...
