Another Cain Thread: Why was he spared?

So im bored (obviously, I have been posting a lot and making stupid vampire threads) and am re-reading Cains Lore journal for the first time in a long time and it brings us back to the point in D2 where he is caged in Tristram for us to save. WHY was he spared?

Everyone else was murdered brutally or turned into demons (Wirt example A, Grissy example B), but Old man magoo is spared and put in a CAGE for heroes to find?

If this isnt a big sign that he is useful to the dark lord in some way shape or form, then I dont know what is.

The only other reason would be respect for the horadarim, but I doubt that that is likely. I sense foul play.

Other notes from the journal: Adria is a witch of the Arcane, arcane is back in D3 as in Adria, could this be hinting at a new class? Arcane Knight would be my guess, but might be too specific of a description.

Thoughts or any other good findings not mentioned in awhile welcome!

I think that perhaps he was spared because the hero from Diablo felt some sort of friendship and debt towards Cain. The Wanderer in these early stages was still quite human, and may have commanded the demons which annihilated Tristram to spare Cains life. The Wanderer was at least human enough to allow Marius to live because he wanted a companion so I don't think it is too stupid to believe that Cain might have been spared similarly, but this time as a favour for past help.

I think he was spared because of Blizzard's false impression that the fans love him and need him in the game. I for one, hate his guts and wish he would stop harassing me.

Diablo games are about raw power (for me) and I find an old crone hobbling around following me, pestering me, and croaking his boring tales at me really diminishes my sense of power and godliness.

This is perfect, if not already the lore excuse for why Cain is still around.

I agree with the Goatlust. Also, he might have information useful to the dark lord, but didn't want him tagging along so he left him defended by Griswald's capable demonic hands for when he wanted to head back and grab him. :evil:

Could it be that he was entrapped due to the demons knowing that the great evils had been trapped by the Horadarim that they were saving him for someone else, or making him suffer in what remained of Tristram...

My thoughts on Cain is that, as a Horadrim, he had knowledge of things that Diablo and his minions wanted. The plan was likely to torture him until he gave up the Horadric secrets.

As for an Arcane Knight, it's possible. After all, it would be odd if only one class had any particular type of damage, and since neither the Barb or WD (as far as we know) uses Arcane skills, it would make sense that one of the remaining classes would.

I too think Goatlust hit the nail on the head there. Watch the opening cinematic for d2 if your not convinced. IMO it shows the d1 hero struggling to control the evil. He loses control and then the evil destroys the pub, and then regains control and leaves. So to me, the wanderer's last shred of humanity kept Cain, his friend and mentor from years past, alive.

Well, why would he put in a cage? Diablo, is a horrible horrible demon. . He's mean. . So rather than let the last horadrim just die. he wanted him to suffer. To see all his friends die right in front of him, and see his home burn to the ground. And during all that, he made him starve. and put him in a cage. . .
That sounds like something the devil would do.

The bond between the dark wanderer and Cain was´nt the best kind of freindship but the friendship was definately there. Their former friendship is simply what saved him. I ca´nt really stand all these people thinking "aaah, it would so so GOOOOD damn Cool if Tyrael and Cain turned out to be badguys, it´s just so cool....now i´m gonna go summon some übercol ghouls with my Megacool DeathKnight....YEAH...i´m cool..."
