it might not explain all the names that end with -berg... at least a portion:

well, some names on the german side that end with -stein or -berg

like einstein..

they come from a naming of a group of jews done by some german bureaucrats... and they thought it would be funny to just name many of them something with stein which means rock or something with berg which means mountain...

EDIT: i found a source that may be a bit clearer about this than my vague history lesson memories...

I knew someone called Jack King, his brother was called Wayne. Then there was these 2 kids I knew, one was a singapore kid named Ping Lim and another I think chinese kid called Ken Chick. Some smart arse realised if you put their names backward end to end you got Lim Ping Chick Ken. Then there was this north koren kid I think his name was Ji Hoon Yoon which always cracked me up. Can't remember the rest of the king families name but there was some gold in there.
