And the winner of the Best College Football player of 2008 is ...

Sam Bradford from the University of Oklahoma.

:cloud9:

"Slingin" Sam Bradford, a red-shirt sophomore quarterback from Oklahoma City, beat out Texas' QB Colt McCoy and former QB winner Tim Tebow of Florida to take the heralded Heisman trophy in New York City this evening. It was the second year in a row that a sophomore has won the crown.

Tebow and Bradford will meet again. In Miami ... on January 8th ... for the National Championship.

Bradford is Oklahoma's fifth Heisman Trophy winner and joins an exclusive club with former winners Billy Vessels (1952), Steve Owens (1969), Billy Sims (1978), and Jason White (2003).

Congratulations Sam! You da man! :alright:

I was going to post about this but left it for you :D

Lot's of records in this voting this year and they all seem to be of the First Loser type which considering the 3 way tie for first between the Sooners, Texas and Texas Tech is understandable.

Political/sports note: to people in TX; when trying to get votes 1 contender is better than 2 or 3

A year after Tebow was the first sophomore to win the Heisman, Bradford became the second and kept the Florida star from joining Archie Griffin as the only two-time winners.
Bradford and Tebow will soon meet again, when the No. 2 Sooners (12-1) face No. 1 Gators (12-1) in Miami

Bradford got 300 first-place votes, McCoy 266 and Tebow 309. Not since 1956 had a player drawn the most first-place votes and finished third; Tommy McDonald of Oklahoma holds that distinction.

Bradford was the third person to win without receiving the most first-place votes, joining Notre Dame's Paul Hornung in '56 and Oklahoma's Billy Sims in 1978.

It was the closest margin between the top two since Nebraska's Eric Crouch edged Florida's Rex Grossman by 62 points in 2001. The only other time the gap between first and third was smaller was also '01, when Miami's Ken Dorsey was 142 points behind Crouch.

Bradford is the fifth Oklahoma player to win the award, and second during coach Bob Stoops' 10 seasons with the Sooners.

Still they now have 1/2 a true new goal in the pocket.
Oklahoma has never won a national title and a Heisman Trophy in the same season.

I'm not really surprised. I think it's hard to vote for Tebow a second time when you've got two other good candidates out there. And OU is having a great season, which Bradford has been a huge part of.

It just makes the national championship game that much more exciting. It's gonna be a great game. :)

Like somebody said on ESPN, Bradford is a great QB when nobody touches him. Just like Ken Dorsey was with Miami. Tons of QBs could be great when they don't face pressure because of superhuman O-lines.

Edit: Of course he obviously has a lot of heart/guts because of the windmill run against OkSt.

I'm surprised you didn't compare him to Jason White. He won the Heisman, but didn't even get drafted because his knees were so bad.

Whenever I can target a Miami player, I will. Damn dirty Miami....

I really thought it should have been Colt McCoy, but I kinda knew he wouldn't win. Oh well, Bradford is definitely still deserving.

And Bradford was completely and utterly out played by Tebow. I am not shocked, things don't go exactly as he expects and he struggles mightily. He looked meek tonight.

Bradford will be a stellar QB in the pros. Tebow will be lucky to even make the cut as a linebacker or defensive corner.

C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT
T. Tebow 18/30(60%) 231 7.7 2 2
S. Bradford 26/41(63%) 256 6.2 2 2

I like Tebow but I hate the espn love fest with him.

If he is so good why did they lose and also get ranked 5th? :whistling:

[I don't care either way...]

I don't know if Bradford will be much in the pros, but I agree that Tebow won't as QB. That changes nothing about what my post said though. If I were Bradford, I would have second thoughts about my Heisman.

It about made me throw up listening to the color man absolutely slobber all over Tebow's wee little man.

I hate it when Oklahoma winds up in a title game

I want to see the #1 play the #2 and I know well in advance OU isn't either

atleast they didn't give up 55 but it didn't do Florida any favors giving them that overrated trash to beat when they could've faced somebody else, like a team that beat OU or something, if anything it hurt Florida that they didn't do better giving them their 5th straight BCS loss

but then its not a BCS season without another OU loss, and atleast they weren't awful, just screws up the title picture yet again

edit - I should say, to the thread topic, congratulations to Sam Bradford who did plenty to deserve the award

I have to say Sam Bradford because I'm a Lions fan, and he's likely to be starting for us next season.

Lets hope he sticks around longer than Barry (another heisman winner from Oklahoma who played in Detroit).

the idea was to fire the type of people that'd screw up the draft and take a QB at #1, so hopefully they wont unless he slips to round 2 or they trade down. Round 2, first pick they could look at a quarterback or try and trade back into late round 1 for one, but I really really doubt any of them will grade to top 3 picks regardless of need and the Lions need help at every position so why be picky

also Bradford is a sophmore (redshirt) and isn't guaranteed to be the first QB taken, all logic would be that he would play at OU next year
