Americans in WW2?

Re: Americans in WW2?

I forget, are we actually arguing anything or just getting our +1's in?

Because it's a known fact that the allies were losing the war until Japan decided to bomb Pearl Harbor and then the US went in and kicked axis butt.

Although I can certainly understand various countries rewriting their history books so they don't feel as humiliated. (And it's a known fact some countries DO rewrite their history books for propaganda purposes.)

i bet germany wouldn't have lasted long enough to pull out a victory over the east of the continent, although it certainly had a chance (a small one, which it blew) to defeat the west+Great Britain (guess whose history books said this part about germany being too weak to really triumph, yes, it's one of the present german ones)

the japanese... i don't know how far they would come if the US hadn't been their enemy, but i'll bet they'd come as far as south-east asia and stop a few km into siberia.. of course thinking of them never touching the US is like thinking that waves will never reach 3m into a beach, which they frequently do

it isnt about kicking butt, it's about industry and resources, we kicked butt economically

and it's hard to imagine how effective Japan would be as an imperial power without any oil

Dude, don't tell your granny how to suck eggs.

Well, after the Battle of Britain it was kind of a stalemate, then Hitler invaded the USSR (with Britain still at his back) and that's when the tide really started to turn.

Or any natural resources really. Even their fishing stocks are nearly exhausted.

i shouldn't do that, as otherwise they'll get upset because they can't accept what alzheimer does to them... generally speaking of course (really not pointed in any direction, no sarcasm either, that would just be tasteless/ srsly, i've already withdrawn from this shizzle a few posts ago)

they're stock standings at the present are irrelevant, but yea, they weren't doing too good back then either

which is not the point, because it was sufficient for causing the chinese an excessive amount of pain

that was not the point! i'm sure you wouldn't enjoy getting raped before having your inner organs stripped out and slung to a tree! (nanjing massacre)... which is kind of what an imperial power does... which is why imperial powers r teh sux

Re: Americans in WW2?

Does anyone else think that Britain would've won the war regardless of whether the Americans had came in or not? IMO, the Americans only sped up the victory, so credit to them for that

If the US hadn't helped britain, its unlikely she would have lasted past the critical point. If the US hadn't entered the war, its possible Germany could have won or at least maintained itself on the western front. Either way, its highly unlikely the brits could liberate the rest of Europe, although they probably would have survived. So take your pick -- soviets or nazis at your doorstep.

either way, fact remains, that germany was doomed from the start, USA or not

I'm not sure what exactly the Allies would have done if B.J. Blazkowicz hadn't infiltrated castle Wolfenstein, destroyed the crazy experiments the mad scientists were doing, and eventually taken out Hitler (who was wearing a robotic suit and wielding four gatling guns.)
