Also, with the king of 1.10 (also called crushing blow), the monsters die quicker to melee characters
How is crushing blow different in 1.10 than it was in 1.09?

For me 1.10 is much harder than 1.09 , because in 1.09 you had skills with which you could smash all things into dust . Like Nova. Like multishot. Like WW. Now that over (i think). And as i almost never do mf runs , usually i end game with crappy equipment and it's quite boring to do all those character calculations , i just look to skill's synergies , cast rate , delay and then create character. As everyone knows 1.10 hell is pretty hellish for all non-hammerdins and all non-fishymancers. And hammerdins sucks :uhhuh:

I think 1.09 had more varried builds, but less viable builds (does that make sence?)

For instance, if you wanted a full powered dentist, you maxed teeth, and that was that. It wasn't hell viable, but you could invest in poison nova as well, and 20 points later, your poison nova is as powerfull as it could be - so now you have max power teeth and max power nova at level 40.

In order to have max power teeth now, you need to invest in other "unused" skills - or synergies just to make your primary skill viable. Granted, they do tend to work together well, but I don't like that you need to spend skills in points you will never use.

Another example - I have a cleric who needs to invest in "blessed hammer" though he will never through more than 3 in his entire career - that is a waste of 20 skill points I could have spent in conviction or salvation or something else - but no! - blessed hammer is the recipient of those points because the "synergies" demand it.

Or how about "berzerk!" - 20 points in shout to improve your defence that goes to 0 when you berzerk? Hmm, I want to throw away 20 points to beef me up when that beefing has no effect when I swing my weapon.

Anyway, that is my 2c - I miss the days when you could invest 20 in a skill and be done with it.

It isn't different. Monsters just have much higher hp now, so CB will deal huge damage :)

imo planning the character carefully is one of the best things in this game. Calculate fcr/ias/fhr breakpoints, synergies, compare different pieces of equipment to each other, plan stats and after that, just start playing the char as your plan tells you. Find out what are the pros/cons of that char, which areas he/she is able to run efficiently and how I can benefit from her/him. Maybe by doing rune runs? Or MF in certain area?

1.09 was good stress relief but after all quite boring. 1.10 is more like a game, not just a way to spend few hours without brains at all. For example I made a burizon in 1.09. After reaching lvl 42 and equipping my cheesy cannon I just run around and clicked mouse button every now and then to see everything die. It just wasn't interesting in long run. But now you must be awake when playing, maybe death awaits around the corner?

It does to me. 1.10 killed quite a few variants, but non-variants are stronger now.

This one makes perfect sense to me. Almost every barb has to have Berserk. Almost every barb needs Shout, especially since it beefs up BO and is also beefed up by it. Now a non-berserker can put one point in Berserk and let the Shout synergy do the rest (1 point in 'zerk was all that was needed before, true, but it took FOREVER to kill anything with it on any player setting higher than 3 or 4), saving points for other warcries, Natural Resistance, Iron Skin, and other synergies. This is probably the most complained about synergy in the game, but it's probably my favorite.

I think people are looking at the synergies only in terms of how they beef up primary skills, not how they affect secondary and situational skills.

Hmm. Hijacking my own thread. I'll shut up now. :)

you know what woulda been a great synergy for berzerk?

War Cry

Why? beacause that is a skill that a "pure" berzerker needs. If I wanted to use berzerk as a suplimental - sure having shout is a great synergy (and for WW barbs it makes a lot of sence) but for a Berzerker barb - using berzerk as the primary, shout is the worst possible synergy. Especially since you need a high level BO, War Cry, Mastery, Berzerk - there isn't any room in the build for a high level shout or howl, which in turn makes your berzerk weak.

in 1.09 this wouldn't have been an issue.

This is just one example (though a fairly obvious one) where synergies limit the build in effectiveness. The same applies to the sorceress as well (on a larger scale) - allowing for some really devistating attacks, but the supporting skills are really lacking. Now to be effective you have to be a meteorb sorc, or some party dependent 1 tree sorc. [/rant]

I'm not sure if 1.10 is harder, but its much more dangerous. The number of things that can seriously hurt you has increased by a factor of about 10. In 1.09, most of my characters feel pretty safe unless they run into an MSLE, Conviction LE or CE monster, or Cow or Moonlord packs with bad mods (Might, Fana, Cursed etc...).

In 1.10 my "serious danger to character health" list includes: Gloams, Skeleton Archers, Misshapen (those lightning spitter guys), Tomb Vipers, Balrogs, FE Beetles, FE anything else, Act 5 Reanimated.
