Alienware a warning

Alienware a warning

hello all,

I am writing this as a heads up really and to express my intense disappointment with my experience of doing business with alienware.
And venting might help :)

On the 21 November 2008 they took £2669.60 from me for payment in full of an m17 laptop.

I was excited indeed to finally be in a position to purchase such a machine having saved up for more than 2 years.

The machine froze solid the very first time I tried to start it up and by the time I could see the desktop I had 4 user accounts in vista because it took so many attempts and forced restarts.

There was a note on the desktop from them saying they had booted this machine successfully several times (sic)

After many hours on the phone to their tech guys and, after having the machine for only a few days, I was advised to send it back.

The chap I spoke to told me that I could have a replacement machine or get my one repaired. He said that if I got it repaired it would be 15 days but if I got a new one it would take until January and i'd have to pay the postage!

It was collected by DHL on 9th December 2008.

It is now 3rd february and I have heard nothing from them at all.

I have phoned several times but their girls seem to have no way of telling me where my machine is or what is happening to it.

they never once said sorry for sending me a broken machine and making me wait in silence for months for a replacement. they never offered me any compensation or a refund. they have offered no explanation or consolation of any kind.

they have completely ignored all my emails, not even a read receipt!

I feel mugged and abandoned by alienware.

so there it is and a sorry tale too.

be wary indeed of giving your hard earned money to this company.

A few days after I first complained to them they set the problems area of my account to "resolved" ( ! ) I think this goes a long way to explaining how they maintain a good record for customer satisfaction!

thanks for reading. dune

whitey, in fact, no i havent contacted DHL. i have done business with them before and they are pretty good at keeping their customers informed. until alienware gives them the machine to deliver its out of their hands ofc.

which is all lovely and what have you but all i have at the moment is a battery and a case to carry it in! :p alienware machines are expensive and it is possible to build one cheaper i spose but you pay for the customer service and after sales support... (yes i feel like a chump right now)

i know that companies can have problems and i accept that i am not the only man on earth but i do object to being ignored. i will continue to post messages warning against buying alienware on forums across the internet until i get a proper reply from alienware.

Re: Alienware a warning

the system spec u show me for a gaming laptop doesnt even worth $5,000. (probably u can get by $3000 or not less) alienware has tend to be overprice. even if u still want to purchase from them just for the cool looking, i see alot of stuffs u add-in are unnecessary.

and if u want a high gaming pc, my advise is always stick with desktop. with the same amount of money u can get alot more powerful machine if u dont want to self-build one. laptop has limits, and it doesnt serve the purpose for being light, easy to carry if built for gaming.

so is there anyway to call ur bank or them to get the money back? sry even though im one of the alienware customer, i havent encounter any problem so i cant tell.

So you came all the way to a diablo 2 forum just to say that?

Meanwhile alienware is in fact a part of Dell and Dell is crap.

Alienware is overpriced..., and laptops are a bit limited as gaming computers. Still, the laptop could have sustained damage en route, and that would not be a fault of Alienware. The customer service, however...

@Johnny

Really? That's awful. (Edit: Dell acquired Alienware in 2006, which I had not previously been aware of)

If you can, get a refund and buy a gaming computer from a reputable (ownership by Dell voids Alienware's status) company for such things.

Re: Alienware a warning

and HP is not so much better. if u want to go with cheap price either asus, acer, or gateway. since every pc components in the market is always about same, it's just each with different design and depend how good each company's customer service and warranty.

Tanooki and others who mentioned it. i paid by card and have paid that off now. i dont really want my money back though, just the machine i contracted for and some respect that i feel i am due.

Johnny, always like your cold cynicism :) i had heard that alienware has a good reputation, you pays your money, you takes you choice...

Gecko, welcome to the forum. you picked a strange thread and a slightly suspicious time to make your first post here...
--
Rashiminos, yes i agree that laptops have limitations but my personal situation required me being able to move the thing around and i wanted to be able to play some of the newer rpg's that i like as well as use it for work. i already have a decent desktop.

still no word from alienware, i wonder if they even bother to read incoming emails. sigh

thanks all, it seems most of you have the sense to avoid the mistake i made even without this thread. dune

I'd be embarrassed to own an alienware laptop, to me it's a badge of ignorance. Vaio also, to a lesser extent, at least as a gamer. Though actually I'd hold the upgrading for a while; I hear solid state hard drives are about to become far, far more efficient and fans are now made without moving parts. Combine the 2 and we should be looking at some very reliable, silent laptops just around the corner.

I paid about $1400 for a HP. It's got a slightly slower Intel and Geforce chip.

Alienware or not. Intel is Intel and GeForce is GeForce.

So really you're paying for the plastic shell. I don't think Alienware puts any propriety stuff in their system do they?

Geez, lots of hate in this forum. No one is ever happy for someone that they bought a good system. It's always "I could have done it cheaper" or "you didn't get the best stuff" or "[insert brand here] sucks!"

dune, you totally should have asked everyone in the OTF their opinion before you spent 5 grand of your own cash. /sarcasm

Sorry to hear that mans, I would have thought that a company like them would have better customer service. Does this mean no more Forge runs?

have no fear old chap, no wretched computer firm can stop a force of nature.. let me at em!

today i have an email from DHL saying the machine is en route.

i wonder if being threatened (and they know about all the threads i have made across the internet yesterday cos i sent em the links :D ) actually worked or if it was just coincidence.

personally i think it was the otf of diabloiii that did the trick ;)

ill round off this thread when i get the machine and i just hope it is working cos i really dont want to go through all this again.

still no reply from alienware though...

when u paid dat amount of money, u should expect customer service to be flawless. dune should've get a machine works straight from the box in the first place.
