Al Jazeera starts english broadcasts today

Who has signed up for this?

Seriously though, would you watch it if you had access?

I would, if only to get a feel for the perspective that they would bring to a story. I think it would be interesting to see a story that was covered by CNN, CBC/BBC and Al Jazeera.

Bring on the flames.

It's barely related to the Arabic language Al-Jazeera, which I've heard varying reports about as to whether they love terrorists or just play their videos for ratings.
So why not? I'm sure it will tank soley because of the association though.

I've watched it in Arabic when I lived in the M.E. I wasn't blown over by it. The irony is that it is based in Qatar which is now the U.S. number 1 safe ally in the M.E. and one of the most progressive gulf countries.

It's neither of those two. They play those tapes because they're important news stories. I don't understand why anyone would assume anything else.

From what I heard and seen, they just play the news as they see it from an independent 3rd party with neither contempt for us or terrorists.

So they've no problem showing our guys getting shot dead, which can be interpreted as terrorist propaganda. On the other hand, they also show terrorists getting shot dead.

So in the past, they've been accused by ALL sides of being a propaganda mouthpiece.

Isn't this Al Jeera or whatever connected to...

Al Queda?

Probably isn't, but I can see people boycotting it, calling it the "terrorist" channel.

In a way they are resposonsible, if there was no way to spread information/propoganda Al quaeda would not be nearly as strong

I know who you're replying to, but two intentionally dense responses in a row?
I just find Republican hypocrisy amusing.

"LOL, that terrorist just got shot in the face. PWNED! Another blow for the bestest, freest country evar!"

"WTF, who shows videos of US troops dying? That's sick. They must be terrible, terrible people to show something like that."

Yeah, I'll bet if it weren't for Al Jazeera all those jihadis would be at home in their Green Bay Packers gear, drinking Coke and watching the Superbowl.

So, does the US plan to bomb AJ's offices like they did in Afghanistan and Baghdad or what?

Curious minds need to know ...
