Why should you max mages ?
Simple analysis
Mages
1) Free prevent monster heal from poison mages (10 minutes at level 40) which is really useful for ubur runs. Poison mages fire low dps(damage per second) but incredibly long duration poison at high lvls, monsters cannot naturally regen life while effected by poison.
2) Free Chill/slow effects from cold mages. Less hits
3) Fire and lightning mages do a reasonable amount of damage allowing you to kill those undefeatable Physical immunes.
4) Mages are an additional meat shield to prevent you from getting hit.
5) Mages help a lot in tight areas like maggot lair or arcane sanctuary.
6) There is absolutely no better way to spend the last "maxable" skill on a necro. Poison/Bone skills will be too weak with such a small investment, and most other skills will are one point wonders.
On to Infinity which senergizes with the entire build of a summoner by:
1) Lowering enemy Defense increasing skeles chance to hit .
2) Lowering enemy resistance increaseing mages damage
3) Giving Decent damage to your merc with some crushing blow making your merc a killing machine to all and not just a walking aura.
With this in mind Infinity is the
BEST RUNEWORD for a summon necromancer since enigma .
Even without enigma or infinity there worth maxing for the eventuality although they will anoy you occasionally since they can block doorways
Add all this together and there is no reason not to . The alternatives are full of 1 point wonders or skills that will make little difference .
