Advice for finding eqp, starting from scratch?

Advice for finding eqp, starting from scratch?

Just like many other players, the recent Diablo III announcement has brought me back to D2 after years away.

My first character back is a fairly standard Meteorb build. At level 75, she has FO maxed (8 in CM), maxed Meteor, maxed FB, and is starting to put points in FM.

She has about 200 life, 300 mana (1 pt. Warmth), and very poor resists.

In Nightmare, she could kill a bit, even in larger games of 6-8 players. She has some trouble staying alive, but she can generally teleport away after a hit or two, if I avoid being surrounded and stun-locked.

I've recently brought her to Hell, and she can barely kill anything. Doing the A2 Sewers solo was very difficult - it takes multiple FOs or meteors to take creatures out, and she dies if anything so much as looks at her.

So, I clearly have problems with my gear. My question to you is: if I'm not going to beg/borrow, and I can't twink, how can I build a solid character from scratch? Most equipment advice on these forums assumes you have at least one character capable of staying alive and dealing damage well in Hell, enough to do MF runs. This is my plan, but I'm not seeing a good way to do that.

What areas should I be running at this time? Should I be back in NM? Even NM Meph is probably too much, and I only have about 60% MF in my gear.

I thought that sorcs were supposed to be the easiest and quickest way to ramp up to good equipment and the ability to do good MF runs, so I'm hoping you all can point me in the right direction.

*drumroll*

Mephisto Glitch Blizzard Sorc !

You can do hell meph naked at level 50 with the moat trick as a blizzard sorc, if need be. And glitching (getting questloot --> never complete your mephisto quest, just stay in hell act 3 and kill meph in games where the quest cant be completed) provides good drops even with 0 MF.

What are your stats.. 200 life seems quite low.

Would this work equally well with Meteor? They're both timered attacks that hit a fixed area, but I'm guessing Blizzard works better because of the additional synergies, and lowering Meph's resists with CM. And won't it take forever either way? You're too far away to use SF, and he has about 100K life in a single-player game.

To say nothing of *getting* to him. TPing from the Durance WP to the stairs down, if I run into just about anything, my sorc will die.

I'm not at home right now, but off the top of my head:

(base)
Strength: 100ish for gear.
Dex: 150ish for max block.
Vit: base.
Energy: base.

I have 100ish points (warning: these numbers don't actually add up, just an approximation) saved. I should save about 50 points for strength (eg, Monarch shield). If I put the rest into Vit, that gets me to 300 life. Yes, that's 50% more, but compared to how much damage creatures can deal, it's still nothing.

start off with doing the moat trick on mephy NM, you'll be able to get quite decent gear from there.

At least get occy, skin of the vipermagi, peasant crown i guess, and perhaps gear like lidless if you don't have a Rhyme shield (which imho is better)

Problems like this are why I choose tons of vit over max block. Either one will work, you just need to get a shield that will allow you to achieve it.

Sounds like you need to increase your casting rate. By doing this, you'll be able to bypass the monsters before they can hit you. Remember to always have your fingers on your pots in case you do get hit or manaburned. Easiest way to increase casting speed would be to use a wizard spike and a lidless. Both are pretty easy to come by and if you are really having issues, you can message me and I can probably cook one up for you.

Other than that, try and group up when doing quests you are finding difficult, eventually get to hell baal and run minions until you hit around level 85.
