Adding Sockets to Items [HELP!]

Okay, so I'm going to sound real stupid but I been reading numerous guides and what not and many of them talk about socketing this or that unique with this or that jewel/rune/what have you. But many of these said items dont normally come with sockets. For example, M'avina's Diadem. I'm making a multizon and the guide says to socket this with a 15 ias jewel. But it doesnt have sockets!

I checked the arreat summit horadric recipe guide but it says nothing about socketing set/unique items. Can someone help?

Thanks.

Not stupid at all. The way to put sockets into unique or set items is to use the Stop the Siege/Larzuk quest in Act 5. The reward is the socketing of an item of your choice (you don't have to use it right away, you can use it anytime). You can do this quest once per difficulty level.

Using the Larzuk quest reward will put one socket in unique/set/rare items, 1-2 sockets in magical items and the maximum of allowed sockets in normal/ethereal items. Note that you can't use this reward on an item that already has sockets.

Thanks. For some reason I keep forgetting about crafted items. Probably as I've never created one in my life. :whistling:

Actually, there is a socket recipe for rare items, it works the same for set/unique/crafted iirc.

But nobody uses it, since it requires a Stone of Jordan and only adds one socket, just like Larzuk's quest.
