BTW. What exactly is an automod when on an item?
Depends on the context. Generally used to describe properties an item type always gets, ie +res or ED/AR on pally shields, +life/mana on sorc orbs or +psn dmg on necro heads. Some people (myself included) also sometimes use it to describe the properties you always get when using a crafting recipy.

The first example is by far the most common though.

Hi there. Pretty nice addendum to the original guide.

One thing though: every time I see this page linked and come back to it, the information about the modified .dll is the first thing to get my attention. Since not everyone who reads this page will have read Repusz's guide or will necessarily recall his comments on the matter, it seems worth pointing out that the .dll has been supplanted for muling purposes by ATMA and GoMule, to the best of my knowledge.

So it seems the only purpose for mentioning the modified .dll is for simulating the /players x command available in later versions. Also worth pointing out is that this constitutes using an outside program to modify gameplay. As such, people using this technique are in a different category from a 'vanilla' player. People new to the SPF might not even be aware that there is a distinction, so including a caution or advisory in the addendum seems like a good thing. It certainly can't do any harm to ensure that people are informed of what their decisions on using an outside program may imply relative to other players.

The same of course applies if the outside program used is WinXP's fast user switching or multiple user sessions on a Mac. Since you have to leave the game to use any of these programs to simulate /players x, they are all outside programs altering gameplay.

Thanks for the kind words DNT. That is a good point about the .dll section - I'll add a warning in to the final version, although I do think that anyone playing 1.07 (and visiting this site) will have some knowledge of the game and the issues surrounding the modified .dll file. I think it also doesn't deserve to be at the top of the addendum, so maybe I'll move that whole section to the end as its probably the least interesting thing.

After a few days I have a fanat zealot in act5 normal and a cheesydin in act1 nightmare. The cheesy (currently godly) is a pioneer to MF low/mid items so my zealot will be well equipped as my future hell MF char. Both been quite easy to play so far, as I had experience of lots of months untwinked in 1.09 before I found this forum and atma.

Anyway I have found some interesting 1.07 items so far;

Forked grand charm - +9max dam, rlvl 18 - n trav council
Coronet of maiming - +20 max dam, rlvl 37 - n monster

Nagelring! my only unique so far, n lower kurast hollow log - annoyed it is only 15% MF as I found a couple of 15% MF blue rings anyway.

And now my %MF is up and cheesy is ripping through quantities on monsters (and about 40 normal mephs) I have a lot of low level set items. I only need sigons shield to have a full set there.

Now this item I think needs special mention?

First of all, let me welcome you to 1.07 - may all your racks drop green and gold. How is the cheesydin working out for you? It was my understanding that hammers don't benefit from concentration in 1.07 and so don't do emough damage to be worth it - I'd love to hear experience to the contrary though.

Re the Nagel, unforunately all Nagels in 1.07 have 15%MF - its one of the (many) uniques that doesn't live up to its later versions (I list a few in my addendum - I didn't add nagel as you can't rack rings).

Also, re-read the sections on MF, unless you hit certain breakpoints its just not worth it (the first one is 127% to get NM bosses to drop nearly all sets with a small chance for rare/unique).

Its quite a nice sword - mostly for the low level req (although is that what it says ingame or did you get that from ATMA as ATMA often displays the wrong level here for some reason - I kinda think it will have a higher req ingame), but nothing to write home about. The huge max damage is because of the way eth items work in 1.07 - they basically get the normal eth bonus and then an extra 50%ED on the max damage too. I'd use it to level a character and not worry about it when it breaks. It does bring up an interesting point though, if you were to carry it forwards to 1.10 and up it, would it retain the 1.07 eth bonus? Even if it did, it would be impossible to get an uber-rare eth phase blade this way as rares in 1.07 can't get the best mods, so no I don't think its worth gambling for eth crystal swords. It does lead me to another question that I have (should be easy to test when I get round to it) about whether an 1.07 eth weapon keeps its 1.07 bonus when imbued in later patches? Anyone know?

Hi again, before you welcome me to 1.07 with too much enthusiasm I want to say that I'm only farming 1.07 for a few weeks to get stuff that I can use in 1.10/1.11. Hope that's ok! :smiley:

Re Hammer power, yep it is pretty low compared to synergised hammers. Concentration does work, but at exactly half the increase shown. ie if it says +150% damage then hammers get +75% more damage. I've checked it at a few different points as he leveled. So with no +skills and lvlv 20 BH and 20 Concentration, the hammers do 164-168 magic damage +345% (actual +172.5%) so that is 446.9-457.8. It's not going to be hell-vaible, but he was very strong in late normal and is still strong in early nightmare. Currently I leave redemption on to recover mana and health and use lvl 22 hammers, sometimes turning concentration on (double damage) for tough boss packs. I'm hoping he will be ok for nightmare LK and meph to find stuff for my hell zealot build. He has a +3 BH scepter and a Monk's ammy +1 all pally skills.

OK sorry about the crystal sword! In-game it says req lvl 15, and +72% enhanced dam. I'm still learning what 1.07 things ATMA can't read right. :sad2:

...if you were to carry it forwards to 1.10 and up it, would it retain the 1.07 eth bonus?
(does) an 1.07 eth weapon keeps its 1.07 bonus when imbued in later patches? Anyone know?
Tested this some time ago: 1.07 ethereals retain the special +50% max damage bonus when upgraded in later patches. They do not keep this property when imbued (in any patch, afaik), although they remain ethereal.

Here is a table with how much damage 1.07 eth elite weapons would do in later patches together with speed, range and max number of sockets. Note: I’ve not included weapons that are not so useful for runewords. It is interesting to see that the ever popular zerker axe doesn’t have that much more average damage than a scourge which is a faster weapon.

It says here that a scourge gets almost the same average damage as a zerker in later patches. However, isn't that because the 1.07 etherealness gives 50%enhanced maximum damage, which is not multiplied by runeword %ED? So zerkers might still be the way to go?

I tried bringing a few eths to 1.11, and the 50%EMD is indeed not showing as a mod anymore, suggesting you're right.

Nope, it really is a fixed bonus of 50% of the ethereal base max dmg in 1.09+. That's still a respectable +54 max dmg in the case of a zerker, so definatly worth getting a 1.07 weapon for.

Ancient's Pledge is ok, Beauty is decent but doesn't compete w/3 PTopaz helm, Bramble is OK for a low-level caster armor, and Death is decent in an Amazon bow. Other than that, save your runes for another patch as the sets/uniques that "high"-level characters run racks for tend to be much better and more easily accesable.

Countess doesn't have a special rune drop. I don't think there is a good "rune farming" area outside of the Hellforge special drop. Distant second would be LK, with Travincal and Cows worth a mention as well.

ATMA eats 1.07 runewords and the characters attached to them. Don't touch a runeword object in ATMA.
