act 3 merc

has anyone ever considerd equipping an act3 fire/lightning merc with a double spirit and a dream helm?

Imo, it's a nice alternative for the ever-present act 2 merc, and the +4 skills might make him do some nice damage (maybe with another +1 skills in armor).

edit: meh i tought dream gave holy freeze, not holy shock, not THAT interesting now :) but i still think there are options

this might be a nice idea for a melee non-magic char imo

oh, minor question: would the fcr on the spirits have an influence on the merc?

yes it would... but the damage will still not be enough if you're hiring him to do some serious killing (i think the fire one is bugged, his inferno which he uses a lot only does half of what it should do... and the other one uses charged bolt more frequently than lightning, wich takes a lot of speed out of his killing even with the spirits...)

the most popular merc is cold... but he's hired for reasons other than serious killing, still

Yes, FCR should make a difference. But however you twist it, the damage output of the Act 3 Merc is pretty low. If anything, he may kill something with a Conviction wielding character like an Infinity Sorc or a Dreamadin / FoHdin or something like that. Even +skills gear won't change that. And apart from that, even an ethereal Monarch with Spirit needs a VERY high level Act 3 Merc to carry the strength requirements.

I was considering him as a merc for a pure-physical damage dealing character. He'd then be the solution to phys-immunes.

And the most important reason is actually because i wanted to try sth different then act 2 mercs..
perhaps with some other stuff i could end up giving him +7 or 8 skills, wouldn't that make him reasonably strong?

also: are his skills increased by +sorc skill items?

not if it says sorceress only next to the +skill mod

also, i don't think you will get him to enough of a level...


try Act 1 rogues. the fire rogue is often used to deal with PI's...
